So you're saying the piece attached at left in your photos is the drive lug from a 5499-D? Just to confirm..........'cuz that's sure what it looks like.

Yes. I have another one somewhere that I didn't disassemble but I won't find that til I'm not looking for it.

It makes me wonder if we should have a sticky with the important Plomb Empire facts linked to this kind of information.
I've often thought we need a stickie for each mfgr, with just one post under each thread containing links to certain threads or posts with important info for each mfgr.

However, there are a few more important stickies I would like to see first. Namely, a 'Read Me Before Posting' stickie (directing newbies to the Search function, explaining how Subscriptions work, how to post photos, a warning that there are no sales allowed with directions to the Classifieds, etc), a 'Common Threads' stickie (with a list of threads dedicated to major mfgrs, and a list of threads dedicated to types of tools - e.g., DOEs, DBEs, etc), and a 'Tool Cleaning Tips' stickie (with links to the many threads and posts on e-tanks, Evaporust, how to spot cadmium, etc).

If you can't tell, redundancy drives me crazy. Since we're stuck using a forum-based website to share our vintage tool research, the least we can do is stop proliferating redundancy. It's not about ownership, credit or ego. When every other week someone starts a new thread on a subject that already has a thread, it splinters conversations and continuity, and makes later searches by subject exponentially more difficult.

The problem is that between those General stickies and Mfgrs' stickies, stickies would take up the whole first page.

Addendum: if I were king for a day, what I would really like to do is make a whole new section for machines (grinders, drill presses, lathes, compressors, etc). Can you tell it's been a boring week? I'm playing fantasy GJ re-design... haha

No posts for over a week!! Been mulling this one over for a while. 1-3/8" crowsfoot the largest non contract crowsfoot. Also a family photo if anyone has any to help fill the gaps. I need if of a 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 7/8, 1, and 1-1/4 to finish them out. Half way there to a complete set.IMG_20190510_164834179.jpegIMG_20190510_164842705.jpeg

Also will hopefully have a conversation piece later next week that maybe some Plomb nuts could shine some light on.

Looking for the following Plomb Pebbles Wrenches 3061, 3070,

I was thinking the same thing Roy! Can't wait to see your conversation piece next week.

Here is a recent pickup for me. A 1/2" drive Craftsman Circle U (Plomb) set. I've not had a chance to clean them up but they don't need too much. Anyone know how large the 1/2" drive circle U socket sizes went to? My largest here is a 1".

I was out sorting sockets in the garage (starting realize I need to get rid of few thousand). I dug through my early Craftsman to pull out this odd duck. It is a very small circle u stamped socket. 1-1/8" and no knurling (odd). Otherwise in Knurled base only have up to 1".

Got a few Plombs things lately.... Here we have some 1/2 drive sockets and speedster, a 1/4 box with most of the sticker intact, a Kopper Klad spud wrench, and a paschall hammer head. Also pictured is a Yankee driver copper coated !

That one is an odd one! Looks like a WF design.

My thoughts as well. It is a little different as the WF seem to have that step up after the drive side. The finish is the same with cad with a blue hue. I am not sure what it is but it seems be only on the Craftsman U series.

Wow impressive finds. Hammer still elude me to this day. I have never have seen one in the wild before and to have the original handles is impressive in itself.

I have found a few in the wild but most are flea bay buys they are really scarce around here. The ones I find have mainly been P&C. I have a thing for Plomb/P&C/PAschall hammers.... Think I have around 15 now.

Bought about 60 boxes of tools today, sorted out a few Plomb out of the lot. Going to have to start a new box of Plomb for adoption. The left hand side of the lot, the red box and the B&C wrench and the Proto keychain are for my keepers. As is the P&C level, will post it in the P&C thread for show and tell.

Is that a stubby 1/4" driver I see in the box?

Nice finds Dave. Crazy amount of Plomb in one run. I know Rubicon has been looking for that 1/4" stubby driver.

It is indeed a stubby. Didn't have one, so it goes into my set. The red box will hold them, as I was using a mismatched box.

The plomb was distilled out of about 60 boxes of tools; there was more than a pickup load that I started with..... Got a few nice things that got integrated into my stuff; now have a lot of it to get rid of again. Going to have a massive yard sale in a few weeks, will put a lot of stuff out then and gain some space back.
I hear you there. I need to do some spring condensing as well. If you are willing to part with screwdrivers and the LA wrench and sockets hit me up. I have some holes to fill in some sets. I also have proto items if you want to trade.

Been adding to the Plomb horde, recently found this pretty rare 10" 3/8" drive pebble breaker, 5266. The finish isn't the greatest, but anytime I find a piece I don't have, it's a good day.

Excellent find mustang, I only know of a few of those to exist. I consider it the the second rarest pebble breaker.

I agree. I don't know if I have ever seen one in the cats. Also are you considering the 1" bar the rarest?

I think we have discussed this before, but all of the bars that end in 66 seem to be rare

Here is one of the 2 discussion pieces. Attached is a an angled DOE from early generation. I looked through the cats and thought it might be the N89. There is a faint RSS or R8S stamping before the Plomb. Could find that part number but do not have an early catalog. Here is the except of the N89 from the 28 catalog.

Here are the questions.
1. What approximate year is this?
2. Is the RSS an Owners stamping or a part number?

Any help appreciated.IMG_20190515_202333753.jpegIMG_20190515_202348958.jpegIMG_20190515_202409149.jpegScreenshot_2019-05-15-20-26-53.jpg

Awesome find. It does look like N89 from your catalog page. Its the "LA CAL" mark that is throwing me. I'll check back in this evening and see if you guys have found anything more and do some more research myself.
EDIT: A quick look at AA showed a similar vintage #1516 DOE also marked "LA CAL". They believe it is early to mid 20's. The AA example also doesn't include the model number mark (consistent with yours), so I'm leaning toward the "RSS" being a PO mark.
EDIT 2: Roy, forgot to ask this morning, but do the end sizes match up to the N89 specs in the catalog?
EDIT 3: I found N89 in Cat #12 from 1933. There it states it was discontinued when present inventory is exhausted. So this validates it is pre 1933. BTW, in this catalog it states that N89 was used for exhaust manifolds, distributors and carburetors.

That size, I thing they all do. I have a 3/4 plug in a 1" body...
I'm having a deja vu, Outlaw! :)

We've been through this before, I think on the Garage Sale thread a few years ago. The 3/4-inch drive ratchet (5649) came with a removable 3/4-inch drive plug, part number 5652. The 5849 1-inch drive ratchet came with a removable 1-inch drive plug, part number 5852. It also came with a removable 1- to 3/4-inch drive plug adapter, part number 5855. I think that's what you have. You checked it before, if I recall correctly. I could be wrong. But that's what I remember.

EDIT: My point is that I don't think that a "3/4 plug" (5652) will fit in a "1" body" ratchet (5849). I could be wrong about that, too. Maybe someone can check. That would be interesting, and taking interchangeability to the max, but I don't think so.

You remember right Lugz, but that confusion was because one of mine cane with a 3/4" plug that fits the 1" head.

My recent point was that I don't recall seeing any >1/2 drive that did not use s removable plug.

To add to this discussion, my Proto "pebble" 1" ratchet has a removable drive plug, but my round-handled Proto 3/4" ratchet, while still old, does not.
