Nice expansive 1/4" set. I have not seen a more full set besides in the catalogs. Good to see those wiper sockets go to a good home. Why are the 1/4" deeps so rare?

Thanks Roy. I don't know, but the deeps I have are the only ones I've ever seen. Missed the stubby the other day but got these wiper sockets a few weeks ago.

I’ll play! Oops, forgot the u-joint. I like seeing those eBay asking prices.

Some of the shallow sockets are the same sizes but different styles. I haven’t run across a 1/4” speeder yet and I’ve given up on that little unicorn pebble breaker bar. Those are way above my Social Security pay grade and I’m not sure that I’ll ever see one in the wild.

I knew these pictures were coming out [emoji23] I never get tired of seeing the assortment shown!

I need to update that picture. Like Roy, I can’t stop picking up those boxes and trying to fill them up.

Edit. Username reminded me that I hadn’t included a 4766 and I added an end view of the long sockets

very nice!!

ALL: I picked up the amber plastic handled 1/4 inch driver last week with a second or third generation Proto 3/4 inch ratchet. do we have a vintage Proto thread or is this it even if it's not Los Angelos stamped on them?

USER: I'm still looking for a plvmb 1 inch to 3/4 inch for my 1 inch Plvmb ratchet cause i might have 3 full sets of 3/4 sockets. I think it might be too spendy for me to hope I'd find a 1 inch socket set, but i can always dream and maybe i'll put it on the unobtainium thread since i've sort of been looking for years for them or the reducer.

nice looking rats!!

OTG & LUG: i'll see if I can find it and maybe start taking pics of my tools as i'm putting them away and getting organized. I've got have a flat file drawer with Proto LA and maybe a full drawer of Proto 2nd, 3rd and 4th generations so not sure which ones are vintage. I did find a leather pouch for PROTO wrenches that is new and maybe more than a few years old that might be worthy of a picture or two. is it blasphamy if i put PLVMB in the leather PROTO wraps?

thanks!!!!

Drives,
I may save you sometime but I am unsure if they ever made that size reducer. The made alot of 3/4" and 5/8" but I don't they ever made a 1". Could be wrong. But I didn't see it when I built my spreadsheet.

Olson: thanks and still hoping since I have so many 3/4 inch sockets. is it you or one of the other guys that has a full 1 inch socket set? care to post up a few pics since i'm terrible at searching for stuff on long threads?

when I first found GJ it was maybe 10-12 years ago and almost everytime I did a tool search so I finally joined about 6 years ago and it's been a fun and interesting ride since then.

I can say my tool hoard has grown more than a little since before i joined.

cheers

No socket sets on the 1". Had the opportunity a couple times but passed. I have 2 pebble ratchets and full set of extensions. A single 1" impact socket.

I have several 3/4 sets, kind of decided to not collect anything bigger in plomb.
Ahh come on. They only had 2 drive sizes bigger. The one I still do not have a single piece of yet.

Olson: so they had something bigger than 1 inch or maybe they had 7/8th's?

OTG: I agree hence wanting the 1 inch adapter. Olson doesn't think they made the 1 inch to 3/4 inch adapter for sockets. thoughts?

User: don't you have the best catalog? maybe you can show us the 1 inch socket set?

thanks

Correct. The 7/8" Big Bertha set that they made up until 1930ish. The only example I had seen was from MooreAg who found a socket.

I decided to take a few more current pictures to illustrate the depth of my 1/4” drive fascination. The first picture shows some items I accidentally left out of my earlier shot. The crossbar (of course), a 1/2” and 3/16” socket and a u-joint. The incomplete set is in progress. I picked up the 4766 on eBay this morning because it was cheap due to the previous owners marks. They were the best part of the bar, in my opinion.

I am finally starting to get some traction on finishing out some sets. A 1/2" Crowsfoot finally became available. I snag it up and waiting for an arrival. That is 2 Plomb sets finished in 2 weeks! Hopefully the next is the BHAG of sourcing a 3061 pebble or 3065 smooth base.Screenshot_2019-11-12-21-34-05.jpg

Don,
Is your crossbar unmarked and a smaller diameter than the sliding tee bar? I think I have one also, but wasn't sure since there is no marking on mine. I'll snap a pic tonight (if I remember!).

I posted it after straightening it in post #5126. It has the pinched end and fits the hole in the 4766 bar just right. No markings whatsoever. I found that I accidentally missed a 1/4” speeder that GJ member Shiftless gifted me a while back. It was hiding in the Plomb toolbox.

You did great on straightening that bar! I saw it on eBay a while back and thought about getting it but glad you got it! I need to find one of those 1/4 drive speeders as well!

I had been overlooking this cross bar that I wound up with in a purchase of several 1/4" Plomb tools until you showed the pic of yours and it reminded me to take a second look. Glad to know that this can be added to my 47XX set as unique piece number 27.

I don’t believe that he knows any of the history of the set. It was a recent acquisition on his part. I looked through the ‘40 catalog and didn’t see any set with that exact makeup.

I think it is something that pops up in UK. This one with t handle has one of those and a couple other odd bits. Here it is with a couple others.

Ahh. I was wondering who ended up with that set. Most of the stuff had a custom part number if I recall.
