I got a few cool pieces in the mail today... One was this nice complete 1/4” drive set. No owners marks on anything and a nice even patina. It was missing the 4714 but I had one in my stash.

That looks a lot like my late war set right down to the box.

What's the part # on the transitional linesman pliers, if I may ask?

Dual marked WF 34 / 5461 extension . I see WF 83 dual marked 1139 wrenches once in a awhile but haven't paid much attention overall to how common or uncommon WF tools also marked with their standard catalog equivalents are.

That wrench should hit the modified tool thread. Cut to a larger opening on one end and bent in that crazy half moon shape.

Not to down play at all as war finish is rare in it's own since but it seems to be the most common at least for me in the 3/4" drive sockets. I bought a 3/4" mixed set with about 6 or 7 war finish 5 bands. I have about 50ish 5 bands but only those 5 or 6 are war finish. They are more rare than LA or non war finish. Very nice goody box. Would love to see them sprawled out.

I've got a full set of 3/4" 5 band war finish in the box, all excellent condition. They're in my get rid of pile, seems like I put them out for sale a while back and no interest here. Haven't had the time to ebay them yet. I can't remember if the breaker bar and ratchet match them. I seem to remember the ratchet is mismatched, pebble from post war. Or a Proto pebble. I'll need to look when I get home.

I'll put them out on ebay in the next few days and see what they sell for. That should give us an indication if they're rare and/or desirable. Maybe tonight, being as it's Thursday. A 10 day auction ending on Sunday should give a good representative market analysis of them.

Roy, a couple of days ago, I found three 3/4" drive sockets I'd set aside with your name on them. Do you remember them, and still need them? I can get the sizes of them tonight if you don't remember it, so you can check.

Edit: The experiment is underway. Here's the ebay auction: https://www.ebay.com/itm/392664129129

Thanks Dave. Let me know the part numbers, if they are 5 bands, and if they are LAs or not. Or a quick pic would work too.

Speaking of odd old sockets, Roy, Just found this one in my stuff: Marked I think DD 10 1/2, rope braid in 21/32, marked Los Angeles and OB. Was tempted to wire brush the grease/rust off to read it better, but I restrained myself!

Haha. I would be interested in it. I seen you listed the 3/4" set. It will move quick at that price. Having the orginal will help for sure.

Nice. Somebody posted quite a few of those early sockets on the bay recently. I’ve been resisting the urge to buy a dd10 and 11 to finish my little set.
Wait you have a set of DDs!?! I don't remember seeing them on the thread.

I'll put the rope socket with the 3/4" ones, I'll send you a message when I get a few minutes to look at the sockets.

You were right about the 3/4" drive set, it sold this morning. I'm glad to get it out of my garage. Have 2 proto sets that are similar, and a Craftsman one to get rid of also. Try to put 10 or so lots on ebay each week, as things sell, make sure I at least list that many back to keep the machine going. Gaining on the clutter slowly but surely! I go down about 100 to 150 pounds of stuff a week.

I just picked up this 3/4-inch drive 55xx series socket at the flea market this morning. Prior owner's name was "MICK" apparently (See Pic 4). :) The markings are so faint it's almost impossible to read. But it's a v PLVMB v style marking. Model number appears to be 55_0. I can make out a /4 in the size marking, which would make it a 5540 1-1/4" socket. The service opening, always hard to measure, even with a micrometer, seems nominally slightly larger than that, almost 1-3/8", but I think it's a 5540 1-1/4" socket.

Most of a set anyway. DD7-DD14. Missing 10 and 11. Posted them back in post 7349.
I found it. Thank for the reference

Nice socket. Looks like she has been rode hard. Is the 12pt forged that way or has it been impacted?

This little extra deep jobbie was inside a Stevens Walden box with a mix of midget tools that I found in the possessions of a deceased WWII master mechanic. He had good taste! :)

Well done sir. The 1/4" deeps are hard to come by. I have only ever found one and it now resides in TX.

I traded away some earlier sockets of the same sizes to Roy and replaced them with these that I put into my wartime 1/2” drive box.

Been on a bit of a buying spree, picked some stuff up at Pomona Swap meet, haven't taken pictures, but I did just pick this group up while in Las Vegas for work. 46 pieces, mostly common stuff, most I have duplicates of. The 238 pliers are new additions for me. Not pictured was also a 1/4" drive box. Some of the wrenches are Plomb LA round O, one dial marked, others WF stuff.

A couple more additions and some first examples for me on the Plomb wall. A 1939 and 1940 single end tappet wrenches.
