Super rare! Congrats.
I checked to see if you had one and you must have as it wasn't on your wanted list. If you do happen to need it let me know. It means more to you than me.

These two 3/8” drive 1/2” sockets arrived today from an eBay seller. I’d been having trouble finding ones with plain finishes. These are both from 1941.

I'm on a bit of a rabbit hunt off of FB Marketplace. Curious if anyone here could ID these sockets as Plomb 3/4" Drive. They are included in an ad with a 5663 Plomb Extension, and I'm evaluating best I can without giving information back to the seller. Anyone familiar with this inner profile? Or any of the sockets?

No Plomb. Could be wright or Blackhawk maybe.

I bought some plomb wrenches at a garage sale this morning. I’ve been to 4 sales since the plague started and scored plomb at 3 of them... not sure if it’s good luck or I’m just getting choosy, but I’ll take it!

I believe you are correct. They did add the 3/8" later and I also forgot about the extensions, universal joints, and swivel sockets that they offered. There must be north of 50 impact pieces they had in their offering before the change to Proto.

Im pretty sure I have 3/8, 1/2 plus uni sockets, and a 3/4 impact set all Plomb.
I do lack extensions though...

Here's some more of mine. 1/4" set in the box (with two different Philips driver bits) and PLOMB large screwdriver. All came from my dad.

Those are great! I wish my dad had kept his old tools, but he keeps buying new ones all the time. I'm building up a toolbox for my 17 year old son, and am moving my older decent import tools and 1990's craftsman stuff that I bought at his age over to his box as I keep buying someone else's dad's old SK and Proto tools.

Thanks for sharing!

Good to hear from you. Hope all is well. The extensions are what I would consider an extension more a drill adapter. I believe they were a 7/16" to 1/2" square.

Hey Jock, I was trying to organize some tool stuff this morning and got distracted by the evolution of Plomb markings so......still distracted......."Squirrel!"

Looks like proto los angeles ratchet. Did you mean plomb usa and proto los angeles? The transitional sets can be confusing. Here is a plomb and 2 proto 4700b sets, marked 4795 on outside and 4700b or unmarked on inside.

Interestingly no. It is pretty much identical to the plomb usa handle, only marked proto.

Is there any demand for a 9/32's drive WF-14?
I grabbed it thinking it was 1/4 drive and was wrong. Oddly it appears to be dated maybe?

This week's additions to the collection, not a whole lot.
3060 DOE, 3734 1 1/16 flare wrench, 6501 Ford cam gear wrench 1¾" dated 1933, 4 3/8" drive sockets, with one being a real oddball, 5221, 21/32" socket. Dated 1941, and still having the original lacquer on it, I honestly didn't even know Plomb made a 21/32" in 3/8" drive. The other weird tool, the K4something grind off tool, dated 1929. The unmarked end is 9/16", the smaller is 1/4". I can find nothing with this partial number or size combo in a catalog. But being a grind off, it was an employee purchased tool. Maybe it was a one off, or specially made, factory custom? The K tools were the specialized tools, car specific usually it seems.

Very nice! The 21/32" sockets were for Ford's I believe and the K4 is a special purpose brake wrench that appears in catalog 6 (1925) I believe.

Roy, yes, I do remember one of the 32nds being a connecting rod socket for early Fords.
I'll have to check for a scan of the '25 catalog for the wrench. Furthest back scan I have is 27 I think.

Sniped this rare 1939 Utica sourced Plomb Adjustable Wrench. This was the "first edition" of Plomb adjustables and by far hardest to come by. I now have a 4" and 8" example of these. I have only seen this one and one other in 2 years on eBay.
I am on the downhill side of finishing out my adjustables with only with the following remaining:
4" J.P. Danielson with hex broached end.
4" Smooth Panel Utica (late Utica production)
6", 10, & 12" of the oval style Utica posted here.

Nice! The other one I seen was the 8" as well. Maybe some other Plomb collectors have some to share.

Well gang, just picked up 25+ new items for the collection, next week I am going back to get more.
Here's one of the best pieces, a Plomb Tool Repair kit wood box, loaded with repair pieces for ratchets

Here's more of what I picked up, mostly all mid 30's and earlier stuff, including a KCT8 Chevy valve adjuster, a pebble 7/8" wrench that was never broached, early feeler gauges, some early '20's open end wrenches, a 9/32 to 1/4 adapter, etc.

Here's another group shot of the other stuff I got. My WF38-T, missing the internals, but with the repair kit, there is all the guts I need to fix it. A 1933 3/8" ratchet, 1938 1/4" ratchet.
But what I want to know, any idea what the S shaped thing is? It's marked 1/2. No date code, no arrowhead, guessing must be very early.

My ship has finally come in! I have had had so many near misses on Facebook freebies, only to be stymied by someone edging me by minutes, or even seconds. This was a listing for a couple of old tool boxes and rusty tools. I noticed the shape of the red box and was immediately piqued. I got there and my optimism was confirmed with this embossed 9980. Missing a. handle (spot weld failure) and a little wonky in the shape, but, hey.....it was FREE! I sense this is a little more rare of a box than the 9989 that I'm see in abundance here.
