That movie The Village from the early 2000's just came to my mind!!
Great analogy. Great movie, too. Filmed in Chadds Ford, PA, just outside of Philly, and very close to where the seminal American artist Andrew Wyeth lived and worked. In case you never realized it, ALL of M. Night Shyamalan movies were set in or near Philadelphia. “The Sixth Sense,” “Unbreakable,” “Lady in the Water,” “The Village”, “Signs”, "The Happening", etc.

A hope to get back to the board here soon. Home schooling, working from home and keeping sane seems to have taken my focus the past couple of weeks. I have a couple additions that arrived yesterday from a member on here and also an eBay pick that I was excited for. Hope you all doing well.
Thanks Smoke! Just took a little break from the interweb.
Welcome back. I was going to drop you a line and see how you were doing this week as I hadn't seen in the board in a while.
I added a few things to the boards today via Roy. A 1246 pebble(1-7/16) I got this summer in a trade that I finally cleaned up! Also 2 dual marked wrenches and also some 3/8 shallow and deep sockets. I have never found any deeps in the wild and want some for a carry box set I am putting together! I also got some 3/8 sockets from catfishdan a while back so I should be able to mix and match finishes to be pretty close for a set I can use if the mood strikes me!

Looks good. Those deeps are hard to come by in the wild for sure. Glad they went to a good home.

Youre not the only one. I have found two deep 3/8 in 5-7 years, both of them are spark plug specific sockets. :/
11/16 and 7/8"

I only have a few 3/8” deep sockets mostly stashed in sets. I got the 7/16” one in October.

Were there only 4 sizes of the regular 3/8” deeps offered? That’s all I can find in the catalogs... I kind of hope so, because that would mean I have a full set!
I also have 2 spare 5020’s.

I have bad news. I just went out and checked my sets. I have two 3/4” deeps, one plated and one plain finish, an 11/16” chrome plated, a 9/16” plain and a 7/16” plain. I don’t see the larger ones in the catalogs. I don’t have any 5020s (hint, hint)

Here is what I got from Roy. Couple of plated ones and some non plated but I got them for a good price so I am not complaining. After seeing that you guys who hit sales every weekend are struggling to find them it makes me feel better! These are the conventional sockets because they don’t have a hole for an L handle like the spark plug sockets do. My 9/16 or 5018 appears to be natural or really worn chrome. If someone has another plated one, I would trade or buy it.

Well darn it. I’ve still got work to do. And I got that 5020 for you Don. It’s ragged but still legible.

Here’s my flea market Plomb finds from today.
- 1151, 1145, and 1141 dbe’s
- 8183 offset dbe
- 2 3026 doe’s
- a well worn flathead
- a dangerously mushroomed chisel.

Fun fact: I’ve found 5 8183 wrenches in the wild, yet still can’t find a 8180 or a 8182! Trade anyone?

A little content. Picked up the sockets on trade from GJ members. Also picked up another W series water pump wrench. Getting quite a few of the water pump variants between WFs, 36XXs, and W series.IMG_20201115_093421729.jpgIMG_20201115_093429148.jpeg

I knew that when you posted the pics. The dead giveaway is the crossbar holes in the sockets. 1/2" drives either don't have them or they'd be a lot smaller.

I know that feeling. I have a few of the S and H suffix marked ones but they are rare.
Picked up some 1940 dated 4 pointers that I was pretty excited for. Raw steel finish. These seem to be really hard to find in 4pt. Variants. Only a few left! Never seen or heard of anyone having the 1-1/4". That has to be a monster!IMG_20201116_163751356.jpegIMG_20201116_163757953.jpgIMG_20201116_163854011.jpgScreenshot_20201116-164005.jpeg

I forgot this little lost orphan was in my Metal Rescue bin from Sunday. The pin handle hole has had a work out.

Not so fast. I spotted this on eBay this morning from the expensive Brick and String seller. That adds to the 3/8” drive deep socket mystery.

It’s proving difficult to find a listing for the largest ones in the various versions of the Plomb catalog 19 although the 13/16” and 7/8” show up in the Proto/Plomb catalog.

Thanks, Don. I am tracking now. I never really took notice before. The only 3/8-inch drive stuff I have kept is the WF- marked and that special spark plug set. It's a little strange that they would go up to 1-1/8" (5036) on those but not make regular ones. The main (and maybe only) difference is the fitted rubber inserts. The only other thing to add is that I think I found a 51xx several years ago. Those were deeps, too, but 8-point. Long gone.

I picked up three little Plomb wrenches in an eBay lot. I was surprised to see the War Finish marking on the back of one. It’s the first War Finish marked tool without the *C letter code that I’ve seen. Maybe there wasn’t room for the letters.

Those are cool, Don. They remind me of the little wrench you sent me!

There is a Plomb box on CL near me. The paint is rough (literally), but it is not all that beat up. It is out of my price range, but still fun to see. I comb CL more than I'd care to admit and this is the first one I've seen.

I have seen other Pressteel made boxes over the years that have a weird paint scheme, with inside drawers painted one color and outside painted another. One of my rollers is dark olive green, but bright sparkly blue under the top cover. And it is obvious that both are factory.

That is too expensive though. If it is still on CL in a few weeks, I would offer less and see if he bites.

This box is a bit overpriced given its condition. I wouldn’t pay over $50 for it. It is straight but needs a repaint. A few years ago I made a bundle deal on these tool boards and this plomb top chest with original paint! I paid $20 for the top chest and the seller threw in the screw drivers! If you keep an eye out you will find one. These pop up in eBay fairly often with original paint for $100

A small little nugget in a stream of fool's gold in the dimly lit basement of an estate sale this lunch hour.......Plombaloy! That word, in that script, is a classic.

So I ran into this Plomb 5295 box at the flea this morning. No drive tools inside. Just a bunch of grungy DBE's that I could hardly make out the model numbers on. As you guys know, I have a complete WF- 3/8-inch drive set in a Plomb 5295 box that I lugnutzed into an OD green 'barn find' look. I do have a bunch of orphan 52xx and some extra WF- tools that I might stick inside to flip. Or possibly work something out with an interested party.

The real story is the DBE's.

Three of them were an 8185, an 8183, and an 8180. See Pics 2 & 3. As it turns out, I already have an 8184, an 8182, and an 8181 in my Plomb stash. Like manna from heaven, it doesn't get much better than that. Not even a duplicate! So, I suddenly have a very decent set of six (6)! Pics 4 & 5 on the bench. Pic 6 already hanging (far right) with some other vintage double offset DBE sets (Hinsdale, King ****, and Gedore), and giving the whole shebang more cred on that Fleet rack. :)

Heck, it doesn’t get any better than that! You found the offset dbe’s you needed to complete your set! Nicely done! In my experience, the smallest and biggest wrenches are usually the hardest to find. I am still needing an 8185 offset dbe. Great find sir!

It's a beautiful Indian summer (67*F!) day here today, so I decided to do some light straightening and cleaning up on that late 40's 5295 box.
