I might go for it if my truck was running.
My "loaner" would cost me way more than $100 driving up to Pt. Townsend and back, though.

Go for it... the Coast Rhododendrons will be in bloom... it'll be a nice drive! ;)

If that was in reasonable driving range I'd get it - I'm with Lugz; for one that nice a C note is very fair. Shipping would probably double it for me...

Okay. Okay.... I replied to the ad. It says, "if the ad is still up, it is still available." but I'm not getting my hopes up.

It's an hour and a half round trip, so roughly $20 in gas (@$5/gallon). It is a pretty drive to P.T. and the cherry trees are in bloom. Spring comes early around here.

If I wind up owning it, I'll use it to store my Plomb tool assortment. It really is a different arrangement. I've never seen one in person.

(I should be selling, not buying).

Ha! I went to make arrangements with an auctioneer to sell some of my more eclectic tools (Dalton Lathe, P&H welder, Bug-O system, etc.) and on the floor for the next auction was a 1930s Blackhawk cabinet. I bought it. That wasn’t supposed to happen!

Just saw this thread...I made arrangements this morning to go grab this box tomorrow morning. Let me know if the guy says he'll sell it to you cause I won't bother making the trip! The ferry ain't cheap and neither is gas!

I have not heard back. I'll bet he's just waiting for you to follow through before pulling the ad and then letting me know it's been sold... assuming he's polite. Nice grab. :)

Well if you want to see it in person, I should be running back through Kingston on my way home. I'm happy to stop for a few minutes as long as I'm not chasing the ferry and haven't decided to drive around due to schedule. PM me if you want to check it out.

Estate sale...So there's a Plomb adjustable and a Plomb 1428 body hammer in this lot but the story is in the 2nd picture....Porter Ferguson. Obviously I grabbed them all. Hell, why even go to the trouble of putting stickers on them if you're only charging $2.00 apiece. I assume most are familiar with PF tools but for context, a used small block GD-5 dolly identical to the one at the bottom center of my first pic and on the right of my 2nd pic with the $1.00 price sticker sold for 89.99 + 8.00 on ebay in Jan.

Man X, you killed that sale! Super uncommon to find that much in one spot!

I was just up there this weekend in sequim. I searched plomb but not plumb. Oh well, I am glad someone is getting a nice box! Not an easy find in that condition

By earlier, I mean that I’d like to find a wartime example, not a Danielson style adjustable, for my Plomb based GMTK. Actually I need both a 12” and an 8” Utica supplied wrench. They don’t seem to be vey common, from what I can tell. These are definitely not mine!

It was just posted yesterday, I was lucky to run across it shortly after it went up. When I got it this morning the guy said there were a bunch of people in line behind me.

I’ll take better pics if the sun ever comes out!

Here's an interesting 18" 3/8" drive extension from 1930, notice the "18" following the 5263 tool no. Looks to be a holdover from the previous years Plomb convention of numbering their extensions by their length ie. DE10 and DE5 for their 1/2" drive 10 and 5 inch extensions.

Those extensions are really cool! Certainly uncommon! Plus let’s not forget those amazing TT sockets there! Very nice.

I bought this Plomb set during Twertsy’s purge, because it had a obscure unicorn for my large 1/4“ drive set. I decided to go ahead and complete it since it had most of the pieces. I added a conventional 1/4” drive ratchet but had trouble finding a 4766 breaker. Fortunately, I received this one yesterday from JjKk40 as part of a trade.

It forced a slight change to the organization of the Plomb tower so it could be added.3DE38E24-2DE0-49B5-991F-E20D5AD01A15.jpegFB13002C-1775-4F99-B7E5-5C285BA97FAC.jpeg

A couple more pics of the Plomb box, the original pics by Mintgrun that the seller put up are pretty good so I'll just add a few more.

The sticker is pretty cool.

IMG_3878.jpg

Very clean on the interior, even the tray and its space isn't rusty.

IMG_3877.jpg

This was my favorite part, I couldn't believe the bottom didn't have any rust. Shelf queen for 70+ years I guess.

IMG_3879.jpg

Here's the worst part of it, pretty sure a little steel wool and WD 40 will clean this right up.

That’s the same decal that’s on my GMTK toolbox, although that one is in much better condition.
One of my goals in putting together a Plomb based GMTK is to use as many specification matching Plomb tools as possible. To that end, I’ve been gathering up ignition wrenches to eventually replace the current Duro-Chrome set. Another one arrived in the mail today.

If you don't already know, those graphics are from the 1941 (dated October 1940) catalog cover. Of the many out there, that one is incredibly intact.
Thanks for the info Lugz, I did not know that...I'm not sure I can put this thing in the basement with everything else, might have to find a spot in the house for it:LOL:

I’ve got a 9989 chest and all my Proto LA tool boards in my house. I would totally put that inside!
