I agree. It does. Stanley bought Atha for their hammers and re-used that name as a brand for their top of the line ball-pein hammers for years. But it's very possible that they used Vlchek for their "Standard" line. Frankly, I never thought about it before.

The 1940 Stanley catalog on IA/ITCL, linked here, shows the "Standard" with a regular handle, but the text indicates that it came with an octagon-shaped handle. It's possible they were getting their handles from the same source as Plomb. I have never brought home a Stanley Standard hammer and I see them regularly, but I can't recall seeing them with octagonal handles.

It gets a little weirder. If you look at the 1941 Stanley catalog that Don excerpted in the G503 post he linked, the "Standard" line does NOT have octagonal handles, but a third unnamed line does.
Thanks for the research and for also creating more questions than answers 😂👍. At first I was all about giving this hammer away once I found out it wasn’t paschall but now I am on the fence. Those are some odd connections and pretty coincidental if you ask me. Here it is next to my other paschall. Both are well used and soaked in oil but the green color and shapes are identical

Plomb was selling handles separately so there could have been Plomb handles installed on other brands.

What ? That’s impossible. Didn’t plomb think ahead to what impact handle sales on future collectors would have ? 😂👍. Now we lie awake at night pondering the true identity of a hammer😳

@Smokeshow69 didn’t you get some NOS handles from me? :dunno: :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Which time?😂👍. But those handles are for the big boy hammers and the green is way brighter than the Stanschall( Stanley Paschall) hammer handle. I need to to rehandled a p&c hard metal/soft rubber handle so the green is getting stripped off and painted the correct blue.

Here are a few bits that I've cleaned up. Wish that the 5449 1/2" rat hadn't been used as a hammer...Also 5463 extension, Circle U 1/2" extension, WF-17 extension, and WF-22 T handle.
IMG_3890.jpg

This batch has 3045, 3030, and 3026 DOE's, what looks to me to be a hacked DBE but if it's homemade they did a really nice job. Then a bunch of pebble combos 1224, 1220, 1216, 1214, 1210. And finally a Proto/Plomb 1214.

Did they make a dual marked 1/4"? I am badly needing to clean up my pile of Plomb stuff and get it organized and into boxes. If I run across an extra 1210 you have first dibs :ROFLMAO:

I finally made some progress on my Plomb based GMTK. This Utica made 12” adjustable and stubby screwdriver arrived from Roy yesterday.

Today I found a pair of water pump pliers at a garage sale that I like better for the 41-P-2100.99B099C6-7B98-4BF9-A717-177C214A7334.jpeg76AE73D2-4C29-4350-B430-6F08B9472C3A.jpegCA26F2A6-49E9-4336-944A-5C8DFE137657.jpeg

I like that hacked wrench. Looks like it was expected to be used more than once, if not regularly!

It's probably the best home modded wrench I've come across, the transition into the T handle is perfectly smooth. If not for the DBE label and the heat marks at the 90 degree bend I'd have no idea it didn't come that way from the factory.

Sorting my swap meet finds by brand. This year was nuts in terms of the quantity of hand tools by the plomb/Pendleton tool brands. This is just plomb by itself and doesn’t include Proto of any era. I will get them cleaned up and then posted again. I am sure I will have spares and will post them in the classifieds once I know what I am selling

Speaking of dual mark wrenches, here is the board today without the incoming wrench from catfish Dan. You can see I am 11 wrenches away from completing it. I do have a few long pattern wrenches hung up but those are pretty obvious. Let me know if anyone has any. The wrenches I need are in my signature

It’s been unusually warm in the Bay Area today so I thought I would take the opportunity to spray some wrinkle finish. Here are pictures of the new 1/4” drive Plomb box‘s paint job in progress.

I posted a few weeks ago that I've been able to complete the combo set of pebble wrenches.

Next goal will be to look for open end and double box end wrenches. Let me know if you guys have any extras please! :)

I just checked my pickups and I only got one but I need it for myself. Every other pebble wrench I picked up was a combo that you already have.

A couple of Plomb arrivals yesterday. On the plus side was an addition to my NAF box with this 11/16“ NAF marked combination wrench. On the minus side was this Utica sourced 8” adjustable wrench that I was hoping was cad plated but it turned out to be very worn chrome plating with a big weld booger on one side that I will remove in short order.

On the neutral side was this pebble combo with small owners marks that I hope will come out better than my existing example. It came with the disappointing adjustable wrench and is now in the evaporust AE0D509F-397D-48B2-A7F3-13B204378240.jpeg

That naf combo is pretty cool! What is the history on that? Does it predate the wf tools?

They can predate WF tools but usually not. They were both produced for different airborne branches of the military. NAF tools were made for the Navy. The wrench listing I posted was from 1944. Interestingly, the combo wrenches had their own numbers cast in whereas they apparently just used regular Plomb marked wrenches when it came to DBE wrenches.

Interesting that the 1 3/16 Combo isn't on your list. The only Plomb comination wrench of that size I can remember seeing was an NAF.

That catalog page is from 1944. There were NAF tools made much earlier than that, probably accounting for your large combo. I’ve found several NAF marked tools that don’t appear in that catalog as well.

Right, but most earlier NAF tools have different contract#'s and you can generally work out year range from the Plomb date codes that appear on the earlier ones, the Bonney codes and other company stylistic tells. The Plomb 1 3/16 is the same style and is an 1147-** like your pictured wrench......so yeah, maybe a little earlier but still interesting that they decided that during a short period of time they needed to order that unusual size in the first place and then either they didn't or it's just not listed for some reason.

BTW, are you aware of any NAF marked combo's that are pre-war? I took a quick look at some of my NAF stuff and there's pre-war double boxes, double open ends and sockets pre-war but all the combo's look to be wartime. Also what is the earliest "NAF" marked tool you're know of? I've seen a Mossberg ratchet that looked older and I have a NAF marked Mossberg flex socket but those are, to me, kind of hard to pin a date on.
