@Smokeshow69 Whatever you do, don't let someone **** talk you into either removing that Proto label, or, conversely, gluing it back down and obscuring the Plvmb one! Because i this case, half on half off is all the way perfect!
I have long since debated both of those propositions but I agree with you, it’s staying how it is! It adds so much to that board and even though I am pretty **** I feel it just add context to everything!

It's like a history lesson! And, while I didn't pay too much attention to the tools you were hanging other than the fact you didn't need my Steampunkette earrings, it gives you a chance to use Plvmb or Proto pieces! :)

A history lesson in how to not run a marketing campaign while sticking it to the man. Because eventually the “man” will hammer you with a lawsuit that even the juggernaut couldn’t escape 😂

Don’t know if you guys were asleep but I picked up this original 16-A catalog off eBay a few days back for what I consider a decent deal($30). It’s in pretty good shape. It has some water marks like it got wet but all the pages are straight and not stuck together. There is nothing quite like reading an actual/ original catalog! Digital copies are good for research but I try to pick up inexpensive originals when I find them

Nice score! I also buy the original catalogs off ebay when I see them. I only have Bonney and Duro catalogs currently tho.

Picked up this 4922-M catalog and 1949 price sheet for $19 BIN on the 'bay. Surprisingly, I didn't see this one on ITCL. The staples are in piss-poor shape and about to rust through, so I will probably carefully remove them and scan this on my flatbed scanner instead of the optical.

Back in 2018, I received a couple of those in a box of repacks sent to me from the UK. I discovered that the crossbars are identical to 1/4” Snap-on crossbars.

Do both crosabars have the same finish or they are just same in size? Mine came from the US back in 2014 or so,same black coating. Is that label a factory code or it was added by military, are all NOS WF tools coated in cosmo or just the ones shipped out to the troops/base?

Military.

Neither. Surplus tools were actually repacked that way by the Ordnance Dept for long term storage and eventual reissue at several depots across the country after the war. 1948, 1950 1951, and 1953 were big repack years. The reissue never happened. Most of them got sold to surplus outfits who sold them to the public. Rossford, in Ohio, was a big one. Pueblo, in Colorado, was another big one.

All the tools were beand new when repacked and sealed or there were some used tools as well?

We have no references for that. Empirically, in my experience, most seem unused NOS, but there are examples of used as well. Don and others may have a different opinion on that.
My experience is the same as Lugz. Most repack tools are NOS in cosmoline. I have some that I won’t unpack. They have been sealed up since shortly after the war and why shouldn’t they stay that way?

Now you're teasing us with pictures of that wooden chest, @d42jeep ! I'm guessing maple and walnut, but can't be sure... Can we see some more? Maybe corner details?

(With apologies for the Plomb derail, of course)

That's a beautiful little treasure chest, Don... and the Plomb tower ain't too bad either ('though I readily admit to being primarily enamored of its contents).

Best regards and thanks for the additional pictures.

John

Looks like you were hunting for Plomb. They are never out of season! We used to camp in that area and fish the upper Sacramento River years ago. It’s a beautiful area. Here is a picture from those days. DF875258-1007-4005-AD7D-3D4F2D3D91BF.jpeg
Here is a new addition to my Plomb GMTK that replaces a prewar placeholder. It will need a bit of sharpening and dressing up.31C31C52-F8CF-4B3F-B22B-67DF0829345C.jpeg890A9974-91B5-4A56-B0E5-502411CCDF8C.jpeg4CF300F1-C500-41E8-9242-AD5D8E6D31CD.jpeg

I created this Craftsman circle U tool board to closely resemble the plomb/Proto tool boards available in this ere since Plomb was the vendor for these particular tools. While the Circle u tools where sold between 1944-1948, they don’t appear in known catalogs. Based on this I created this board to display my circle u marked tools next to my other tool boards. I painted the border a heritage era gray and aged the socket rails in vinegar to cut the shine down. We know that these tools came in 3 different finishes- cadmium, plated and non plated so that’s why I have multiple socket rails present. I took some tools out of sets I had just to show where the tools go but as you can see I still need a lot! If you have some spare circle u tools, please let me know! The last picture shows the layout how it will appear when completed (lots of Plomb placeholder tools shown)
