I'm putting in the electrical this weekend. How should I put the 12/2 between the poles?
String and staple pole to pole? Or go along the base plate?
I will be from insulating it in the spring. Then drywall.
I want this to be easy......

Thanks

Welcome to GJ, Jerad.

Please put your location in your profile.

Easy would be to just staple to the face of the columns and let the 10 or 12 foot hang in the breeze.

Right would be another matter.

Some experts will be along in a minute.

Assuming the siding is up and no more nails I'd staple the Nm to the upper face of the purlins going across. Every 4-1/2 feet minimum and a staple within 12" of each box.

The reason I suggest the upper face is so that if you ever decide to "side" the inside, (hopefully) the wiring won't be in the way as it would be if you used the large flat face.

OSB, Tyvek, LP sidding,

I was thinking (a dangerous thing) if I ever resided the building, possible nail going through or needed access to the wiring for some reason. removing the drywall and 3 inches of foam would make it easier to get to.

since the foam will be suspending (holding) the wire so to speak as soon as I wire it up, I was originally thinking of just drilling a 1 inch whole into each pole and string it from pole to pole. or possible going along the base plate down the center.

One thing about doing it yourself, in the future you'll know where the wire is at and how to avoid putting a nail through it.

Looking at the photo you posted above... are the electric boxes down by the floor?

On my barn I ran the wires across the top of the wall, and then down the sides of the poles.

I was going to mention something about that, but to each his own. I put mine about 4 Ft off the floor, but I'm old, and lazy, and like them where I can plug in stuff without stooping down.

Agreed... I placed them about 50" off the floor. That way if a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood is against the wall.... you can still find the outlets.

Something that I learned from experience :wtf:

To get "around" the posts, Just go behind the posts in the 1 1/2" airspace.

Staple to most convenient purlin.

No drilling involved, could not be simpler.

I see your boxes are at around 12", not like 50" or so.

This will NOT be a shop?

Did I miss something here?

Not sure where the question is. Marc

I always confuse girts/ purlins, just like rails and Stiles.

AND, I DO try to communicate accurately.

Talk to the "carpenters" in my area, Insane -- beam, joist, plate, are all "Ya, dat board" to them.

Frustrating.

Took me years to remember diff between borrow and lend.

Still workin on Infer vs Imply.

BUT !! At least I do know "I could'nt care less VS "I could care less"

Quiz- If a thread pulls loose from a fabric, or like the cutoff end of a Nylon braided rope, and keeps going coming off/ parting of fibers, is it "Unraveling", or "Raveling" ??????

Google allowed. Marc

I ran the wires along the girts on the outside of the posts. I did not want to drill through the posts and have the wire dangling from post to post. The building inspector said the wire needs to be stapled every 4 feet or so. I stapled it on the top of the girts. I figured if I ever re-sided it I have 5-1/2 inches of girt to nail or screw to without hitting the wires. The building inspector approved of this method.

Also I mounted my boxes way higher. Like 48" or so from the floor. This makes it conducive to future workbenches and stuff along the floor etc.
