I've been telling the wife we should. Now is as good time as any to build bigger/better.
I was playing around with Menards online software today designing a building 30 by 48.
Anyways I got to the section on insulation which leads me to my questions:
Option one is 2" insulation/condensation blanket - means for use in buildings not heated year round.
Does anyone have any idea what this is?
Option two is 6" bat insulation - for buildings heated year round.
Well I am not heating year round nor will I be cooling year round, so my thought is to Tyvek it, then put up this insulation/condensation blanket.
Why wouldn't that work?
The only reason I would Tyvek is to cut down on the wind leakage.
The ceiling I am still torn between bats or blown in.
My old shop has blown in and it is full of mice tunnels!

I have a Menards building. One of the builders out here basically orders the kit to your specs from Menards and has it delivered here to CO and they assemble. The building has been fine. They do bookshelf girts and the bats go right in between them horizontally. That way they don't tend to drop over time. I blew in my roof. Not sure how a mouse would get up there.

When they say heated year round, it means not allowed to freeze. Obviously you don't heat it in the summer, just stays warm because it's summer. And, stupidly humid....because WI.

From my understanding you want a vapor barrier regardless of insulation or not, to help cut down on sweating. I have been looking at getting a Menards kit to expand my shop.

I think this is the point.

The 2" just provides enough gradient so that warmer moist air doesn't condense on the colder steel walls.

The thicker insulation is actually designed for the building to be heated/cooled.

Check out my build thread. Its from Menards just put the finishing touches on a couple weeks ago. Its a 28x50 with 10 foot sidewall.

About 18,000 i think for the main material package. 48,*** all complete. Take advantage of any and all rebates that u can. I really played it well and ended up around 4k worth of rebates etc

OK, Great! I'll check out your build thread tonight! Its up and down on the decision to build or not. I think she is mostly looking at the Tax deduction issue from a HEL. I would rather invest it in Windows and Siding for the house I think? Its a big investment so I am in a quandary.....

Well.... I guess I dont know your situation for sure. But I can say I know a thing or two about paying taxes and Heloc's. I guess all I would offer is that paying interest instead of taxes isnt all its cracked up to be. You end up with nothing left in your pocket anyways, which is where we all would LIKE to have it.
