P0234 - You are right; I should have explained what I meant by "failed" floor coatings. I mean actual coating that has lifted, maybe from hot tires, and bubbling off the floor, stained and discolored. Some lifts have been small, a couple inches and some larger. Discoloration has been from sun damage from having the garage door open and some have been from liquids spilling on the coating and perhaps sitting undetected or just not being wiped up when the spill happened.

There are many many threads exactly like this...

The fix is to grind the coating off and start over.

This is a huge reason why I really dislike "single day install" type vendors... No way you are getting the floor ground, cleaned and 2+ coats of product put down in an 8 hour day and not have issues... One thread a guy had his floor acid washed same day they put down 2 layers of product and had lots of bubbles...yea because the concrete was full of water when the put down the first layer...

I’m with you. Too much analysis paralysis. Grind it off and do over. Who cares why? The last guy screwed up either mixing it, didn’t look at dew point, did a one day “system”, etc. We grind, base coat, then flakes. Wait until the next day, scrape, then poly. We call it the 1 & 1/4 day system!

Having the same issue, they already sanded the topcoat and reapplied it, but it's been 24 hours, and while it smells like what the first coat smelled like on day 3, I'm worried they just sealed up the uncured deep spots of the first coat and didn't sand it off all they way. It also still indents when I push my thumbnail in it and sorta flexes when I press on the thicker areas. Also, still a bunch of roller marks/unevenness, rough stem walls and step side with barely any topcoat (with pooling of the topcoat that has gone milkish around the walls)... not sure I have it in me to fight the contractor for a full refund and to have another company regrind and start over. Got a temptop air quality monitor and the TVOC levels in the room adjacent to the garage are above 1.5 mg/m3. Have a toddler at home and am just panicking that I screwed up everybody's health

Sorry; can't believe it is almost a year since I posted on this thread. Glad to see the OP got his floor sorted; it looks much nicer.

As to the "failures" I have seen and have in my current garage (not the new garage) I can't tell you how or why they failed. I was not the one who installed them. I just saw staining, bubbling and peeling, Poor prep? No idea.

I want to do a nice finish on our 1,600 sq. ft. floor, but am really hesitant to consider a coating for those reasons. Maybe my experience would be different with a new floor, professional installer who just finishes floors, and guarantees their work. . Michael
