Well it seems Kleer has changed how they extrude their product and it no longer has the porosity that I hated.

Will have to stop at the yard next week for a sample. Likely the most expensive option, but it's as close to 0 maintenance as can be. Don't even have to paint it.

Stopped in today to get some prices on a few things. At $40+ for a 16' I will not be using PVC.

Material still had a texture to the surface, maybe not as bad as the last time I bought it but certainly not the smooth, solid PVC I wanted.

Bump.

Pine edge and center is going to run me about $1800 (prices are a month old, I'm sure it's gone up).

Plywood beadboard is about $700.

Gonna just staple up some blue tarp at this point.

I'm about to pull up 600ish square feet of good condition oak flooring. Free to a good home...

Rest of repair/refurbishment done, pro start the ceiling in a few weeks.

Looked at the beadboard paneling at HD, not my thing. Need to look at the material at the yard again, but that was $48 per sheet. Only other realistic option I see is nickel gap or pine edge and center.

I’ve always been a big fan of tongue and groove 1x6 boards but they’re time consuming to install. My personal preferences are pine edge and center bead painted or cedar v-groove clear coated depending on the style of the house. I’ve seen some cypress that looked good clear coated as well but prefer the warmer colors of the cedar.

Life (and death) got me off this project for a while. Weather looks iffy for any good outdoor activities this coming long weekend so thinking I might tackle the ceiling and trim. Ordered the SS brads today but another $2k in wood is hard to stomach...

Coming back to this.

After looking at options, my budget and overall style of the house (cheap 80's ranch) I decided $2k in premium pine was excessive.

I looked at the 3/8 beadboard panels and almost went that route but decided the tight spacing didn't look right in this space.

In the end I went with 7/16 BCX plywood and used a 90 degree router bit and guide to V-groove every 6". The long edges got a 45 degree chamfer to match. The seems are caulked and then pressed tight. I had to add some strapping, but the panels are screwed and glued up on a 12" grid with trim screws, all holes caulked.

Needs some trim and a final coat of paint, but looks just like tightly installed V-match pine:

Looks nice. Curious to see what its like once the lighting is in

6 of the 7 halo showed up, should see the 7th tomorrow along with the hole saw.

Still 87F out there and no breeze. Stood around looking things and contemplated cutting/trimming the hatch, then said F that.

Probably won't get into the attic to run new wire from the junction box until Saturday morning.
