I think $8500 for a turn key installation for the scope given is pretty good in my opinion.

With him being your neighbor (although licensed) what is the value of your friendship should this go south?

Thanks all...here's what I understand from the quote on the install.

4" level concrete pad. They will set up the drawings, etc as required to get the permits. Permits to the township are another $225. 1 year maintenance included.

22,000 generator. Automatic transfer switch mounted near electrical panel inside the home.

Further, they have offered 0% for 1 year.

I went to the TWP office to get the forms and info.

Then I'd say you are getting a great price. I could be more along the lines of $9.5 -10K plus permits. (again - site unseen.)

They should be the one's signing, stamping and submitting the permits. Or is this where things start to get creative? Is this a cash deal or on top of the table?

My next door neighbor and I are friends. It's his son's firm that gave the quote...but my neighbor has promised me that he will be involved.

He says that they handle the actually filling in the permits, etc.

We get along very well...I'd expect any issues would be dealt with quickly.

The numbers and terms look very good. If the workmanship and execution is good, then you'll owe someone lots of food and drink.

Pics when done pls.

Going with the same setup. $8300 all in with 10 year extended warranty, smart load shed module, first year maintenance and first year monitoring fee. My meters (gas and electric) are literally 2 feet from the install location and panels directly below in the basement. My dealer does a lot of these and commercial units as well. 22kW unit will run my whole house on NG with some load shedding (one of my ACs, oven, dryer). Be advised that 22kW is the rating on propane which has a higher heat value. NG rating is 19.5kW on that unit.

Will be installed in about a month. I'm in southwestern PA. Just lived through a six day outage in sub 30 degree temps.

Now you did it.....you will now have a power outage before your generator is installed...

It happened to me. We had a 2 day outage during the time between signing the contract and installation.:wtf:

And after you get the genset installed you will never have an outage again....

You got it....the 2 outages we did have, the generator ran longer on cool down than for generating power.

That's an excellent price ... One of my nephews got a similar quote that's actually cheaper vs what he got a coupe years ago. He has a very favorable install with all the services close and easy cut in for the load box as well.

The Cummins 20/22 kw price has not changed -- you can get the unit /pad/ maintenance kit / 2x load boxes/ remote control for inside .. for about $5500.00 delivered. So the install is about 3k plus permit for my nephew.

Yea, I'm pretty happy with it. That's a good deal on the Cummins as well. To me it comes down to which local dealer you're most comfortable with.

I really wanted to step up to the 27kW unit with liquid cooled 1800rpm engine (2.4L). Quieter (smaller units are 3600 rpm), longer engine life and I could have ran this place like nothing ever happened but it's quite a jump price wise (equipment and install.) I would have been close to double so it didn't make sense.

Like anything else .. at some point you have to say "enough". While we lose power in the summer -- it's typically for short outages when not having all the AC units running will not matter. It's really the winter time when the power can be down for hours or a day -- that's when I wanted the generator.

Since everything was new (house) I did the whole house transfer w/ load ... at my beach house I just have a smaller unit and a separate panel for essentials.

Update, finally got mine installed. Took 2 experienced guys about 4 hours in 8F degree weather. Nice clean install and great to have piece of mind. I'll need to move the Hydrangea plant on the left as they get huge and will probably put up a little privacy screen.

Looks like my nephews install -- he had everything together in one spot as well. What is the third box partially hidden?

In addition to the box inquiry from yelgodt….

What is the black cables (?) to left of meter and coming out of xfer sw enclosure?
Is that black hose (to the right of the gen) coming from the gas line or a hose bib?
What is the clear distance between the face of the meter and rear of generator?

No one is getting anything past you guys! That's why I love this place. The pic is a little deceiving as it's straight on. There's a tad over 36" from the face of the meter to the genpad and another 36"+ from the genset to the gas meter.

Box to the left of meter is telco/cable and that is black corregated tubing. Black cable out of the ATS to genset is a control/power bundle they buy prefab housed in a flexible conduit since there's vibration at the unit. Black line to the gas meter is the flex line that comes with the genset connected directly to the gas meter with a shutoff. Hose bib is right behind there.

The rectangular box below the ATS is a junction box they needed for some reason but I forgot to ask why and haven't had a chance to look inside.

Finally, my generator ran, producing electricity! 15 hours & 11 minutes. Used approximately 10 gal of propane.

1 load laundry in the electric dryer, 60 minutes with a 375 deg oven, 35 minutes using the stove top, electric heat pump, well pump, 2 tvs, internet, multiple lights on......not bad!😁
