Post lift placement?

I am trying to decide where to place a 2 post lift in my 30W x 50D I am planning. Where did you guys place your lifts? I'm afraid if I place it in the rear it takes up most of the back of the building, but if I place it up front I am afraid it will be in the way. Suggestions?

Also how tall did you go for your lifts?

Here's where I put mine.

The barn is 36' wide (left to right in photo) and 64' deep with 14' bottom of truss.

The lift is 6'-6" from the wall on the right and 18'-0 from the overhead door, the door is 18'x8' and has the high lift kit, so it goes straight up for the first 4' so it only sticks about 4' horiz. into the garage when its open also the bottom of the door when its open is 12' above the floor.

its worked out good for me. being in the front you can use it for a parking space and its easyly accessable when you need it.

one thing to think about if you put it in the back is you'll either have to keep that area in front of the lift clear all the way to the front or you will have to constantly be moving things to use the lift.

You can download a copy of IrfanView to do things like reducing the size of pics. It's free and works very well and has lots of features.

Can you change resolution size in your camera? Maybe change to something like 600x800 resolution? Sometimes that's easier to do than to use PC software.

You might want to think about angleing it in the corner it will take up less width in your shop.That is what I wished I would have done

I'd like to hear more suggestions on this topic also. I am planning a 52x99 pole building with 1/2 the building dedicated to the workshop. All of the doors will be on the long side of the building so the workshop area will be 49.5 wide by 52 deep. I have the same concerns as the OP. If I put it closer to the door (Rear) it will make it easier to get cars on the lift but will make getting vehicles to the front of the shop harder. With the lift in the front the car parked behind it will need to be mobile if I want to get anything in to the lift. Maybe I'm over thinking it as I will probably never have that many cars in the shop at once that I'll have to worry about it. I'm currently leaning to have the lift toward the front of the shop.

I am also planning on putting mine in the corner at an angle. My shop will be 30x30x 14.
I have a 60 lincoln continential... if it fits... everything else will to.
I got the idea from Chip Fooses show were he rebuilds other peoples cars.. his lift is in the corner too.

I put mine towards the back, in the center. I wanted the dirty items closest to the entrance I use the most, to try and keep the rest of the shop clean (ok, cleaner).

Where are your overhead doors ? On the 50' side or on the end ? You can see mine here... http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=188161 My buddy has a 30x40 with one 16' wide door on the end and he is wishing he put a couple of doors on the side like I did instead. Whenever he needs to move something out of the back of his shop there's a bunch of other stuff in the way.

I have a 30x50 with a door on one end of the 30 side. Wish I had doors on the 50 side but I average 300" of snow a winter so it would be way to much work to clear snow falling off the roof. But anyways my lift is all the way to the front on one side. I too wish I angled the lift but it has worked out for the 4 years of owning the lift.
