With the recent discussion of Giller tools, I picked up this Giller 1/4" drive partial set at an estate sale on Saturday. I was surprised to see that the sockets were a mixture of Thorsen and Giller. The spinner was an exact match to my Thorsen spinner except for color.

^ Giller boxes never look the same in person as they do in photographs. Something about that blue color.
I have yet to see a solid-colored handle on a Thorsen or Giller spinner - that's a new one for me. Most of mine are clear yellow with a green knob at the **** end.

Those are great! Looks like I need to find some more of those. I do have a couple of metric ones.

Nice middle period (1950-1970) Thorsen's.

I have seen a long 1/4" combo wrench in my travels. If I re-find it, I can snag it for you if you like.

I believe these are the only 3 thorsen wrenches I have. When I first saw them, I thought they were ugly, but over time I got to really like their design. Really hoping to find some more this year.

Can anyone fill me up with info on what time frame these are from? Assuming this design is not produced anymore?

According to alloy artifacts they appeared in the catalog in 1991.
These are all my extras, I could help you out with some if you want some.

honza where about are you located?

they're packaged as "Thorsen II" in those photos just above, but they aren't marked that way. as ryan said, they're the later production stuff - Thorsen also made them under contract for KAL, Dayton (Grainger's house brand), and Belknap Hardware's "Bluegrass" brand.

Yes, please. Although I'm not a collector, as such, but someone who has a wide assortment of various brands of tools.

I'm fairly new here so please let me know how fellow GJ members make it right when someone does a fill - is it a trade situation? Pay for postage?

Thanks again. I have some KAL tools and couldn't remember where or why I had them. I'm going to guess I bought them when the same size Thorsen was not available.

Side note: I am planning a trip to eastern Oklahoma in the spring. The Oklahoma trip is a "have to" so I want to also spend another day and go to Oklahoma City and check out the Thorsen selection at the hardware store mentioned in an earlier thread. If I make the trip to OKC, I will gladly assist with anyone wanting to complete a Thorsen collection. I will post on this thread when I am going.

Regards,
John

The same seller (Meridian Tool) has not only the Thorsen NOS, but also apparently a lot of NOS Duro-Indestro.
Two items I know they have are the 2775A 3/8" drive RHFT ratchet, and an 8-piece Duro-Indestro metric short 45° offset double-end box wrench set 6mm- 20mm. (This set: http://www.ebay.com/itm/8pc-metric-...:g:~l0AAOSw44BYRPAs&item=142201551345&vxp=mtr ) They've been going for anywhere from $25-$50 on Ebay over the last year. Meridian is selling the set (as I recall) for $30.

IF it is US-made Thorsen, I want a set of the 3/8" drive metric shallow sockets. It would be nice to get photos of all of the items they have available in both Thorsen and Duro-Indestro (or Indestro.)
