How did I miss this thread?
This gives me a great idea to mount wrenches on a few boards vertically on a few slide out shelves in a cabinet / locker like this

They make a tool box that has that, I think Sears has them, that was one of the things I was thinking of for a modular toolbox, a unit that could be used horizontal as a wide drawer or vertical like you're talking about, just need to find someone to make them.

Found the Sears one (It's a Viper toolbox):

Here's my 2 Proto tool boards. One is all impact sockets 1/2" and 3/4" drive.
The other one is 1/4" and 3/8" sockets and drive tools. They're both almost complete. The 1/2 drive shallow impact sockets have a space for 2 or 3 of each size, so I'll end up with 2 complete sets of 1/2" shallow impacts. The bottom row is 3/4 drive impacts, I don't even have a 3/4 impact gun.:lol_hitti It's been fun so far tracking down all the tools to try and complete it, but I can't wait until the day that they are both filled.

Hey Bull are you the one that nabbed it off eBay?
Looks like you got a hell of a deal!

Yes, that was me, and thank you for not bidding! :lol_hitti
Boro_Boy, those are the ones I was thinking of, and they look awesome mostly filled like that. You have them hanging up or laying down?

Man does that take me back to being a little kid and going to the auto parts store with my dad. Thanks for posting those.

Bull, They're hanging up in my garage. You were right about when I bought them, it was in September. I thought it was before that, probably because I watched them for so long before finally pulling the trigger.

Without a doubt I would say $30 max.
On your board is there a difference between the top row of adj wrenches and the bottom ?
Or are they just repeat sizes?
Either way it would be fun to find all the sizes!

I had that same question as you at first! The top row is for "Crestoloy" wrenches, and the bottom for "Crescent." I have not checked the AA site yet, but I imagine the Crestoloys were the lower-priced economy line.

I take common boards and run some screws in, they can be mounted anywhere. Another on on the other side in the first pic. Makes it easy to find and put away.

Okay here is what AA said pretty interesting....
"In 1930 Crescent introduced a line of alloy-steel tools under the "Crestoloy" trademark. The extra strength of the alloy steel allowed the new wrenches to be thinner and lighter than the older models, but still stronger. Advertisements for the new wrenches typically claimed them to be "30% Thinner" but "200% Stronger"."

I think they are now dual branded, one side says Crescent and the other Crestoloy, at least thats what mine are.

What type of jacks in the back left? Hard to tell but look Ausco'ish, Possibly Old Walker but that one appears to be 10 ton.

Could not find the Barcalo..................could take me days to find it.

Here are the plastic peg board examples I found (a 69 Charger and 69 Dodge pickup were used as backstops, what did you expect from a MOPARHOUND! :bounce: ) :

I knew it was a 69 or 70 before I read the post. I had a 70 as a kid. PMing.

I have a Chevrolet special service tool board (empty) that came from a dealership. It has the old round logo from the 50s. I'll see if I can get a picture if anybody's interested..

Is anyone interested in seeing some oddball old tool boards from antique catalogs? I have some early 1920's wholesale catalogs filled with odd old tools, store displays, and auto parts and accessories, like this one here from a 1920-21 Lomont catalog. I could post a few more...but maybe this is not appropriate, since I don't actually own one the boards today? Let me know, I am new to this.

Rats! I thought if I pasted a link to my photo album in my Garage Journal profile, it would show the picture in my post. Didn't work. Sorry! I'll have to go back and figure another way to do this. I have lots of old auto parts catalogs and tool catalogs, dating back into the early 20's and earlier.

Yessir, I am 100% interested. Are the pics stored on Photobucket? That's the easiest way to get them in here, IMO.

Obviously I don't have the actual boards, but at least this way you can get a description of each tool which was supposed to be on a board. Is that good, I hope?

Thanks. I have literally thousands of old auto parts catalogs, and a few tool catalogs too. They are all at my office, so I'll have to wait til tomorrow to scan a few more. I am SO glad to find that someone other than me likes this stuff. I thought I was the last person in the world who cared about old tools, old garage stuff, etc. :pimpflash
