I cut out 2 sections in my existing garage floor (6'x5') ea. and dug out old concrete and rock beneath it to get a proper depth for my 2 post lift. My question is do I put rock or something else down before the concrete, or can I pour directly on the earth? I stopped digging at 12" and it is still very easy digging, is that expected? Thanks in advance.

It depends whayyou digging up. Is it sady fill? If so It's a good base for crete. It should be tamped though. A power tamper is best. If there is any topsoil it has to come out no organics

Location is Southern Illinois, and I am digging topsoil. The existing pad is over the very same topsoil, but it does have 35" deep footings around the perimeter.
