Thank you! I have everything to start powdercoating at home but I've never started doing it. It's on my bucket list and your guide has provided a lot of information.
Regards,
John

Join the powder365.com forum. Lots of tips from pros and lots of good deals on powder and supplies.

Here's a photo of a valve cover I did as a test. It's metallic gray with a clear coat over it. It actually needs another coat of clear

I just started powder coating in the last few weeks. I have really enjoyed it. I have a TP Tools blast cabinet and an Eastwood powder coating kit. I need to get a larger oven off of craigslist when I get my shed built.

I did my brake calipers in a basic Porsche yellow with powder clear coat and I am doing my buddies brakes as well since he did my brake install in a candy red with a chrome base and clear on top as well. Here are a few pics of mine and his..

Nice work there roll the dice! Calipers are a PITA.

Pull those silicone plugs after you spray but before you cure (give 'em a little twist as you pull). It'll leave the threaded openings smoother without any 'tails' and also save you the hassle of having to clean cured powder off of them afterwards.

My shop is celebrating its 10th Anniversary on May 31!!!! The time has flown by and the projects never fail to keep me inspired. Here's a few from my bench ...

Thanks, I appreciate it! I read that about the plugs, but after the fact. I was also afraid of bumping the part and screwing it up! :D I can definitely see where doing that would leave a much better edge.

Congrats on your 10 year anniversary! That is awesome!

Now you got me interested, what is a good gun for a newbe?

My wife bought me an Eastwood dual voltage powder coating kit for Christmas last year. It included 5-6 powders, a small oven and the gun. I am going to eventually buy a used oven off of craigslist so I can do larger parts.

The Eastwood stuff is cheap enough that if you don't like doing it you aren't out a bunch of money. I have thoroughly enjoyed powder coating so far. I am starting to restore my 1965 Chevy C10 soon and will use it on some of the engine bay parts...

The only problem I have with the Eastwood gun is that I clean up the gun outside, and everything, the transformer and all the wires have to go outside with the gun. I do this because my shop is dirty enough and I don't need spent powder everywhere. If they would just put a disconnect at the gun, life would be much easier.

I want to coat some bolt heads that have an oil and phosphate finish. Will bead blasting be enough to remove the oil and phosphate finish? I plan on soaking them in acetone after blasting.
