How are they as far as taking a beating.. lasting..
It seems the newer hook is to large for getting in small areas, and not many good reviews ..
I have had a pp3 for a few years. It has held up well except, I did have a problem when it was dropped on the tip and damaged the circuit board. I called the company and they sent a sent a new board out free of charge. Great customer service.
If I was buying now, I would get a 4 over the 3. I was going to get a 4 when they came out but I noticed it uses a different cable so not all the 3 accessories I have will work. I am waiting for a killer deal on 4 with all accessories and the 3 will become a backup
My 3 has been good to me for 3 years however I saw using it yesterday trying to probe a connector. Must have shorted it out it made a pop and not doesn't work. So I do want to replace it and I'm not sure if I want to get another 3 or try the 4. I will say whatever you choose get the master kit with the wire piercing probes I use them the most easy to test things in a harness without ripping it a apart, you can also plug them in your regular dmm
The hook is the better of the power probes IMO and i say this only because of the hotshot feature that the hook has.. It will load test a circuit with a 5amp load at the press of a button..
This is a critical step when diagnosing circuit faults. Circuits that are hanging on by a single strand of wire will not show a fault when you ohm it out using a dvom.. Load testing all circuits that carry atleast half an amp continuously is a good way to not get burnt during diagnosis.. The hook does this easily, also the snap on eect900 does this..
You can literally put your dvom into storage with either of those power probe products (power probe makes the eect900 for snap on).. You don't have to struggle to find a good ground like you do with a dvom or test light. If the power probe is on then you have a good ground without question.
I have the pp3 and I have the eect900 on order with snap on.
