I just picked up 6ml poly vapor barrier today along with 45 sheets of 2" blue board to go down before rebar and pex tubing.
My question is this:
Are you supposed to tape over the seems of the blue board after its down.?
If so what kind of tape? I plan to use duct tape on the vapor barrier.
Also I plan to put foam board around the inside perimeter before the floor is poured. What would you recommend doing for an 8x16 door. Insulate on the outside of the wall/footer or on top of the footing under the slab and call it good? There will be a footer poured, then 4' walls poured on top of that.
Thanks for the help

I did not tape the seams on either of my two shops, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. I just cut them for a tight fit. I used the blue dow boards on the second shop and they had a tounge and groove on the sides to help lock them together.

Mine were both pole barns with floating slabs, but I had a footer for the OH door. I just used cut-down foam boards for the perimeter of the slab, and along the inside of the door footer. You want to isolate the heated slab from all of your footers or they will draw the heat from the slab and radiate it into the ground.

The insulation I used comes in a roll 4' wide by approx. 90', I think. It came with an adhesive pull off strip on 1 edge. I would only caution you to let your concrete guy know that taped seams hold the water that would normally escape as the floor sets. My concrete floor guy said he had to be careful not to work the floor too much as it would raise too much water to the top. It turned out great. We ran a strip of insulation around the perimeter of the slab from the top of the footing to 1" below the floor surface.

I was told to tape the seam with Aluminum tape thats used on A/C ducting .In no way shape or form would I use 500 mph tape as it will deteriorate over time and isnt a vapor barrier.Good luck with your build.
