Did he explain what bacon grease does? Seems that would attract more animals, no?

My wife and I are cat people. We have three indoor cats (two born in her parent's barn and one we rescued after its mother abandoned him outside of our townhome). We had a bit of a cat problem outside of our townhome. There were typcially 2-3 femals who would continue to have litters on the other side of a wall that separated our townhome community from a rather large plot of privately owned land. Honestly I didn't care about the cats. They didn't get into garbage, there were no rat or snake problems, and they pretty much left everyone alone.

Don't we poison rats and mice? Vermin that carry diseases and destroy property? Seems like (especially the feral cats) we're talking about the same thing.

His idea was that one dog leaves a mess and because of the tasty bacon grease that he poured on it the next dog takes it with him.

I have a neighbor that is a real problem with dragging stray cats home. She means well I suppose and thinks she's doing right by them. All she is doing is feeding them and they live outside. My place is their litter box and my flower beds look like moon scapes. You can't walk anywhere without stepping in a hidden pile of ****.

While building my shop/garage recently I had a conversation with the husband and told him I was fed up with it etc. He doesn't like it either due to the costs and the problems and said he's made her promise not to haul any more home. He said he had no problem with me trapping them and doing whatever...even suggested burring them in the many holes and trenches I had at the time.

I have read this thread for a few days now. I am not a cruel person and have limits to what I would be inclined to do. Heck I have a pool and it would be easy to simply lower the trap into the pool and problem solved..but I personally wouldn't do that. However, I have no problem with humanely terminating a problem. We are talking about a cat, a cat that isn't even a pet. Simply an animal that is being fed and otherwise left on their own. As some have said, when that is the situation it becomes a pest or a problem like a rodent or others - I agree. An animal is an animal, emotions are attached for various reasons but they remain animals. Some become food, some are pets, some are merely enjoyed for their beauty - on and on. I agree that the problem is the owner, animals are animals, if the owner does not take responsibility and it is a problem for others there should be consequences.

As an example, here is Ca we have water problems because of a few small fish in the delta area (and I mean a few). They are little smelt for heavens sake. If we had a famin due to lack of water, would this be a problem? Back to the topic of stray cats that are allowed to live outside and roam, the caregiver feeds and gives no other thought. Let's keep things in perspective and eliminate the problem for the rest of the people around them.

A man was arrested for trying to do that to a cat (he had actually shot it a few times then put it in a cage and threw it in a lake to die). A witness saw the whole thing and rescued the cat from certain death. The cat lived and I think it has since been adopted by a loving family.

But yeah...glad that is something you wouldn't do. That is a pretty sick way to kill any animal.

Drowning an animal is not pleasant.
Allow me to explain: We had a MOUSE problem. Caught it on a live trap. I couldn't be bothered to take it faaaar away and use mineral oil to loosen the glue, so I dumped him upside down in a bucket of water. It was actually pretty ****** and I still feel bad about it. A drowning animal will, like any human, fight for life...

Apparently not many people couldn't live off the land then. If you could you would be able to shoot, bleed, gut and butcher an animal for food. What exactly is humane about a cow going to the slaughter house and being cut up into nice steaks and hamburger for you. Or is it merely the fact you stomach is to soft for you to see it? A number of years ago a young man was hit by a Tahoe less than 10 feet outside my drivers window. The pour guy was bleeding profusely out of his mouth and the air bubbles showed he was breathing on his own. Had that been an animal cutting his throat would have been the humane thing to do. Beings he was a human his mother tried to save him with CPR. Humane....******** she did as much to kill him as the car that hit him. A cat, dog, squirrel whatever is not a human and I feel should not be treated as such.

I live in the country and have laying chickens, and the cats here are feral, so it's the shotgun then dumper.

Funny reminded me about this crazy black lab that the tard neighbor would let roam in the morning basically let him out while he was getting ready for work call him back in and lock him up in the house all day. The dog would tear into the trash on Monday’s trash day.

We had this huge party about 180 people came on a Saturday night and people brought all kinds of food and concoctions. One lady made this container about two gallons of the hottest Quiso cheese dip that nobody could eat, some left over pulled pork, chili, nachos, etc and I dumped about half gallon of the worst sangria made with grain alcohol I think, into a big gallon zip lock carefully placed all of it one of those in aluminum pans that you put a sterno under and put in trash bag and in the garbage can.

I heard the can go over on Monday AM and my wife called me said look that dog is getting in the trash! She was very upset. I said let em eat he cleared all that stuff including that bag of sangria it opened and dumped into that other nasty mix and he ate it all he was staggering when he walked away..And got locked in the house all day, I haven’t seen that dog since.

I’m a dog lover not much on cats but they have the minds of about a two or three year old so should never be allowed to roam the streets you wouldn’t let your toddler wonder around, well most people wouldn’t, so the owner should be punished and animal “trained” with whatever works cause their rights stop where yours begin.

The last three mornings I've woken up, looked out my window only to see a German Shepherd taking a **** on my lawn.

This morning the sumbitch actually brought his dog with him!

Oh I can kill just fine thanks. Just drowning is pretty inhumane. He struggled for a few minutes then I took him out. By the time I got back to the mouse with a 2x4 he had already succumbed to water in his lungs. Oh well.
You don't drown deer, they get shot, then you finish them off. But drowning someone's pet is a whole different animal (pun not intended), buddy.

I wasn't pointing what I said at anyone. Just wondering how far we have to take the "Don't hurt the animals ********." If we did what everyone acts like we would all starve. What is to stop people from telling us we can't hurt the plants then. Its absolutely absurd the way people act anymore. Rant over.

Anybody that shoots an animal several times, fails to kill it, then resorts to attempting to drown it, should be shot themselves.

Humane is one shot, one kill. I realize that doesn't always work, but that should be the goal. If it doesn't work, a second shot should follow up to finish the job.

I have no problem with somebody shooting nuisance animals. Dogs that got dropped off in the country had to be shot. However, poisoning, drowning, etc., is a ************ way of doing it.

Oh, and all the cows I've seen butchered were dropped with one shot.

animals =/= humans.

they never have. they never will. anyone that thinks otherwise should be shot.

I never said they were equal. That still doesn't excuse somebody from being a sick ******* and torturing them.

I'm not against killing nuisance animals at all. However, one can do it quickly and humanely. There's no reason to torture an animal by repeatedly making piss poor shots, or drowning it, or letting it die of antifreeze poisoning over the course of 24 hours.

Sorry, but no.

As much as you love your pet (and I know where you're coming from, I love my Jack Russell) he is still but an animal and animal life is never greater than a human life, ever. Regardless of what kind of trash said human is.

The owners of the critters that are roaming the streets are the ones who should be tortured! The animals are just doing what is natural for them!

I feel for those of you who live in the city and have to deal with this ongoing issue. We live out in the boondocks and typically if we see a cat or dog on our property it is a wild one, which means if they don't move on quickly or if they return, they will be eliminated humanely with a strategically placed .22-250 caliber 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip bullet at 4,000 feet per second. That is about as humane as possible.

However, I always prefer that they just move on because I really like cats & dogs that are properly maintained as pets. :)

It doesn't matter much, but I couldn't disagree more.

*********, ******, torturer or murder vs just about any animal? Animal's life way more valuable.

I have to agree with the rabbit as much as it pains me. As much as you love your pet you wouldn't pull it out of a burning building before your child or even someone elses child. At least I hope you wouldn't. I think the point is, as worthless as some people can be, there is always a line drawn. You may feel that your pet is an exception - but there is still a line between people and animals.

Ok, this is a well worded description of the problem and a legitimate solution (considering the rural location).

There is a big difference in what was said here, and the hand full of posts on this thread from folks who (1) dont know the difference between a feral cat and a pet, and (2) seem to actually enjoy the idea of injuring, torturing, poisioning , antifreeze, rocksalting, etc, what they think (hope?) is someones pet.

The idea of someone basically saying "This (stray / dumped /feral animals) is an unfortuante situation which sadly has to be dealt with by killing the animal as humanly as possibe" is a lot easier to stomache than "Since I don't know the difference between a stray and a pet, I am going to assume this animal is someones pet, then I am going to torture it".

I am glad that the OP seems to lean towards the responsible / humane options that have been expressed in this thread.

I agree with you. If you have seen a animal die of antifreeze poisoning, anyone would agree. I have a neighbor that I think poisoned my dachshund but I have no proof other than my vehicle did not leak any and I was having a lot of problems with him/her.

Theres been someone killing dogs, torturing them, here in Lansing, Mich...

He's been leaving them outside in cages letting them freeze to death in parks and wrapping them in duct tape around their paws and muzzle...

THATS someone who doesn't deserve to share the same air as I. :)

Sorry, it may just be a dog, but anyone who will do that to an animal and not have the balls to just kill it and instead tortures it is a future serial killer in the making and doesn't deserve the same quality air to breath as I do :D

So, by your logic, because this sick ******* killed a dog then he deserves to die.

Is that a correct assumption?

Yeah. People who torture animals deserve to die.

Someone that tortures animals purposely does so for a reason, and these people should seek counseling before it has a chance to escalate. These people often progress from animal cruelty to vilonce against humans. Who knows, removing the guy in question from society now may prevent another Columbine situation...

"Researchers, as well as the FBI and other law enforcement agencies nationwide, have linked animal cruelty to domestic violence, child abuse, serial killings, and to the recent rash of killings by school-age children, according to Dr. Randall Lockwood, vice president of Training Initiatives for The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS)."

"While there are many factors that contribute to someone becoming a serial killer, the one constant they share is animal abuse."

In todays society where a pet is emotionally considered to be a member of the family, it is not that far of a leap for someone that commits acts of vilence against animals, to then turn to vilence against humans.

I find it very disturbing that some here condone executing a mentally ill person based solely on not what they have done to another human but what they might do.

I'm disturbed and sickened by news every day. Ultimately, it doesn't matter, because outside of my own personal affairs, there is very little that I control in this world.

Same for you. Don't worry so much about what guys on a message board think if it doesn't align with your Weltanschauung.

Sorry - call me mid-eval, but people who torture and leave animals to die without no ability to fend for themselves are worthless individuals. Those are the ones that Darwin needs to take care of.
