If you ever pop over during the day and have some time to give a private tour let me know! I'm your neighbor to the north and see this place EVERY DAY.

Thanks!

Yeah Kevin, we'll have to line something up.. I drop in over lunch sometimes, but it's pretty spontaneous.

Dude, awesome shop. Who makes those shop cabinets?

Thanks. The cabinets are Moduline Pro.

A little pricey, but they are very well built and the service is 1st class. That was one area of our build that I wasn't willing to cut corners.

I love this condo so much I want to one myself. But I do have one problem...
You never posted pics of the finished balcony!!!

Sorry about that.. They are on my 'old' phone.. I'll take some tomorrow and post them up soon.. both the inside cable and outside iron railings are done.

Whats the latest on the garage? You get your two post lift installed yet? Hows that air compresor working?

Very little activity lately.. we're taking advantage of the very short summer season here :)

Build is officially done, as both the inside and outside railings are done. If I can remember to bring my camera with me one of these days, I'll post some pics.

I love the Quincy compressor.. way, way more than I need, but should last basically forever.

Holding on the two post at the moment.. my wife doesn't like the permanence of the posts and with a 4 post and a scissor, I may not use it enough to merit the spend.

Cobra build is on summer vacation.. will resume, full throttle, on Nov. 1

Umm...no I don't...not married. If I were and my wife attempted to dictate what I did/didn't do in my garage (with the exception of hookers & cocaine), she'd get the pimp hand. :pimpflash
slap.gif

That scenario works unless your wife is a 2nd degree black belt like mine :lol_hitti

She's cool about whatever I want to do.. really don't need a 2 post for my current inventory/project list.

What a garage, great job on the build out, you put lot's of thought into it and it shows. Someone i know sent me a link to your build out thread, and felt that it was something i would enjoy. And i did, and now i enjoy the garage journal due to you, if not for your thread, i never would have known about this site. thanx's and great job. I wish they would build those in Los Angeles, but the price tag would probably end up around $750,000 due to the cost of real estate..
Cheers

Thanks very much.

I ran across Garage Journal in a similar manner when I was doing some research for my scissor lift. I had never heard about this site, and then when I found it I thought to myself: 'what a great idea, a Forum about garage related stuff'. Been here, mostly lurking, ever since.

Hope you have a similarly good experience here.. there are certainly a lot of knowledgeble and helpful folks here.

I think you're exactly right about the higher cost in markets such as LA, Miami, NYC.. A large portion of the land at Motorplex is wet-land. It's not really necessary for the actual building site, but it probably made the property more affordable and that view has turned into a selling point.

I've seen 'garage condo-type' websites touting development in larger markets, but they seem to be in warehouse districts (probably due to real-estate prices and perhaps a lack of 'quasi-residential' plots of land) that may not give exactly the same type of feel.

Thanks all.

No Blue, we have to let the cedar age. A number of the other units built before ours set the standard. The deck surface is Trex.

Thanks guys.. Glad to hold your attention atxgsa :)

Inside railing was custom fabricated by Ace Rail and Design. The rail posts are 1.5" x 1.5" and the top rails are 2" x 1" - as are the side rails. The steel is matte powdercoated black.. shows no fingerprints :)

The cables are stainless - Jim at Ace can give you the dimensions.. We chose to leave the end-caps off for a more architectural look. He took extra time during assembly to not hack up the end fittings too much knowing that we wanted to leave them exposed.

Very happy with the end product.

Here's his contact info:

LMK if I can help further.

HIRISC, are you allowed to do fabrication like welding, cnc plasma, milling in these spaces? or is basic maintenance and assembly the only thing they allow.
I guess i am curious as to ccr's and what the restrictions would be in a type specific community like this. Do you have 24 hour access?
I love your build out, but i was curious if considered doing commercial glass on the edge of the loft to keep dust and other particles from getting on your upstairs man cave space.

Just an amazing build and facility. I read the whole thread today and just wanted to say to HIRISC that I'm impressed with your condo but also very impressed with the graciousness and humility in this thread. You've obviously put yourself in a position to enjoy the finer things in life and while reading this thread I was struck by how down-to-earth and gracious you were throughout.

I was out to the Auto Motorplex a couple weeks ago for the Muscle Car show, and walked by HIRISC's garage - it's even nicer in person. :) No one was around at the time, I would have liked to say hello.

A lot of the other garages were open, and I saw lots of welders, lathes, milling machines and so forth. Some of the people there are doing ********* fabrication, while others have their garages mostly set up for displaying their cars and leisure time. It's their choice.
