Born and raised in MN. Will be up to visit the parents in late summer. Do you know for sure if the Cars and Cafe will be held on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend? I want to check out the facility. Also want to see a Twins game at the new stadium and they're home that weekend. TIA Kyle

I've been lurking around for a few days since I found this site. Talk about inspirational. You don't know how many diagrams and plans I've made for my garage in the last couple days. It'll be nothing as awe-inspiring as this, but it'll be a nice change from its current state.

Thanks guys.. I took a lot of inspiration from a lot of threads on here.

Kyle - look me up if you get to town for the Sept. C&C. I'll likely be around.

Thanks, I'll do that. In addition to admiring your garage, 69 Camaros are pretty much my favorite all time car.... even though they aren't made in Stuttgart!

I hate to go off topic again about the kit car again but I have to ask what is involved with putting that thing together? I am not a welder or a painter but I can bolt things together. I am just curious how much is involved and if it is something I could do.

Thanks!

Is Munich good enough? :)

NP, the Factory Five Mk.4 'Cobra' kit does not require any welding. The chassis is complete. You can buy them as donor (strip many required parts from donor cars) or non-donor or complete kit.. All new parts.

Parts that are not included - even with the complete kit are: engine & accessories/transmission/rear-end, wheels/tires/battery.

You're on the hook to either do the bodywork/paint yourself or hire it out.

If you're mechanically inclined and have some patience, you can do it. It's not simple, but it's not rocket science either.

Good reading at www.ffcobra.com

I think you need a bigger garage condo already

Yeah, is the unit to the left available? You may need to expand.

I was out there for the April CnC, but your condo (at least I think it was yours) was all buttoned up. I'll be sure to try again. If we all time it right we could have a journal gathering at one of the CnC's. <--these are lattes:)

No space available next door - thankfully. Keeps me from doing something I might regret :)

With two 4 posts, there's room easily for 6 cars in the big bay and a project car under the mezzanine. More than enough for us.

Sorry I missed you at C&C Chad, I'll be there in May and will have it open from 8-9:00am or so.. I'd leave it open all morning, but then I couldn't cruise around and check out all the cool cars :)

Yeah, I figured you were just out and about. I'm planning on making it up there for May, we'll see. Either way, I'm sure I'll make it up there when you've got it open sometime.

Oooh, I saw an E36 the other day.. had a cage in it.. looked very similar to this.. awesome!

That's a "Lightweight" (LTW) E36 M3 (or maybe a clone of one). Couple of weight saving changes from the standard cars. Very, very rare cars.

Neil,

My father has been building a Factory Five Mark III by himself for the past 5 years. He only had 1 day off a week, the garage wasn't heated for winter use until recently and he's never worked on cars. There were minor snags here and there, but I think his worst enemy was buying, building, seeing something done differently on the Internet and then buying new items and rebuilding that area again. I've helped him whenever I visited and really don't see anything that would keep the average handyman from completing it in a decent amount of time. Befriend some mechanics and remember there is LOTS of information on the net. My father usually uses the ffcobra.com forum.

Good luck if you decide to build one!

No, driving down Shady Oak Rd. in Hopkins last Friday around noon.

Had a custom plate, but I can't remember.. maybe 'M3'

Ok, That would be a different one then. The one we finished didn't have a motor or trans in it. Also I think its a track car only.

Was it at Orr? We just got done putting the cage into the M3 Light weight the Chris is working on.

Do you work at Orr, or did Chris just sub out the cage installation to your place of business? They've been servicing my '86 M535i pretty much since it was new.

Thanks.. I wish I could 'live' there, but since it's zoned commercial, that's not an option. (although, if I happen to fall asleep after a few beers, or work 'all night' on my projects who's to know). :bounce:

I think you could easily pull it off. As long as your not getting mail there then how would you prove it? "I just work on my cars 24x7"

I stopped by today as well but didn't see the garage in this thread. Saw some other CRAZY nice garages. Amazing what some of the people have done.

Saw this place in person today!! WOWSERS! Class act facility! makes me want to work on my garage even more, just need the funds!!

Did it rain much? I didn't go because of the rain and figured the turn out would be small. I really wanted to go since I hadn't seen HIRISK's place yet either, but I wouldn't have enjoyed it with the rain.

Little bit of rain until 9:30 or so and then no more rain until about 11:00.

I've never been before but I thought there were quite a few cars there.

Yeah, I was there today too. It was a pretty decent turnout (about the same as clear days). I didn't see HIRISK's garage this time (the door was closed; I didn't get there until about 9:30). I was able to visit first hand last month, and it was beautiful. I would like to thank Chris and his wife for their hospitality when I visited last year.

Thanks guys for the kind words.

Sorry I didn't respond to you JT.. I haven't been on here for a couple weeks. Glad you got a chance to swing by.

Greg - thanks.. our pleasure.

We're usually around for Cars/Coffee with the door open between 7:45-9:15 or so, then shut her down so we can go check out all the cars.

Turnout was good this month, given the rain. I taped off the place this month cause when it's wet a lot of mud/dirt gets brought in and cleaning the floor in that place is a *****.

If its dry out, I'm happy to let people inside.

Webbs - too much!

If you ever pop over during the day and have some time to give a private tour let me know! I'm your neighbor to the north and see this place EVERY DAY.

Thanks!
