i am sure this has been gone over before, but finding it is more work than i can stand today.

my work area is in part of a metal storage building. i bought a huge tarp, and have draped it at the back of my area, since i dont want to heat the other two thirds of the space.

i have one of those cylindrical floor forced hot air proper heaters, but they are not meant to use in an enclosed space. i understand that the primary waste gasses are carbon dioxide and water.

since i assume that at least some of you use these things to heat an enclosed, but not tight, space, i was wondering if there are any recommendations for detectors? carbon monoxide detectors are common, but i want one that will specifically cover dioxide also.

your recommendations on detectors are appreciated.

I heat my uninsulated garage with a double burner tank top heater. I only run it for a 2-3 hours at a time. It only get the work area up to about 50F. If I was going to run it longer, like 8 hours, I would probably get a CO detector.

I have been using the same type heater in my 1100 sq/ft garage / shop for the past 2 years. I run it for about an hour or so then shut it down. It heats the place very well and my Carbon Monoxide detector doesn't even move off zero.

I just scored a brand new ceiling mounted Reznor gas heater from work so I will be switching over to that going forward but other than the fumes from the propane heater and the fact that it drank gas it did the job for me...

I use the same type in my insulated 1200 sq ft. I burn for for hours at a time. My Carbon Monoxide detector rarely moves off 0.

I did leave the garage door open a crack, probably could leave screen in man door open for same effect. CO detector seems like a good idea.
get one with a display / readout. I find that handy to monitor actual level instead of waiting for it to go off.

I'm temporarily using (until I get my MOdine nat gas heater installed) the tank top radiant heaters. not meant for indoor space but I have some air leaks and a CO detector . no problems yet. I wouldn't want to heat that way on an ongoing basis, but for temp heat, I'm comfortable
