Propane shortage? Anyone having problems?

I just read an article , that it will also be effecting our food prices because much propane is used in. The poultry industry , the fruit crop in Florida and on and on.
Hey this is just the tip. Of the ice burg , if Our idiotic pres gets his way , everything will suffer. Wait until coal is out lawed all together.

Fox news said it would return to normal winter prices by the end of February . I have two good size infrared heaters running just so I wont have to fill the rest of the winter!

Unless they are a smaller supplier and the projected use based on previous history changes , then they lose.
Who could have accurately , projected this long extremely cold winter we are having ? Where I live , they can not predict weather accurately at all because we are surrounded by the Great Lakes.

In Maine you prebuy a set amount, the supplier goes out and buys futures contracts for that amount, they have a a set price for what you prebought. if you need more than your prebuy, guess what you lose, the supplier doesn't. The suppliers also buy futures for their other customers who don't prebuy, they are still getting propane at those contract values, the shortage allows them to stick it where the sun don't shine. The thing is, they have to take delivery of those contracts in the time period specified so if its warmer than normal, they get stuck with the product, lots of times they are renting trains cars to sit on a siding as they have no where to take the propane, then the supplier loses his shirt.

I paid $1.69/gallon for 400 gallons at the end of October. Last week, I paid $5.49/gallon and could only get 100 gallons.

My hands are tied as we have a newborn at home, so leaving the house at 60* is off the table.

All I can say is...I wish I was in the outdoor furnace/wood stove business right now!

Two weeks ago I paid 2.79 a gal in mid Ga at Tractor Supply. Yesterday I went by to ck and it's 3.29.They charge only what a tank takes. Their supplier charges by tank size. Empty or partial full.Thats why I went to T/S.

HHO is even cheaper right now. There's a bunch of schmucks on Craigslist saying "ditch the propane company and buy our POS used fuel oil furnace", gonna be sad if someone buys into that only to realize LP is cheaper 99.99% of the time by a significant margin!

Lowering the supply (ceteris paribus) does NOT increase the demand in this case (nor in most cases besides things like luxury goods).

Colder than usual temperatures has increased demand. The supply is lower due to higher usage in the pre-heating season period, pipeline issues, etc. Both these factors combine to significantly increase prices.

Thats the same amount that i used all last year, .............its been the 100 year winter

Called my supplier, Amerigas, two weeks ago and was told $5.13 gal. I bitched and they reduced it by $.20 and told me it would be delivered the following week. No delivery so I called again was was told it was now 7 to 20 days but they were delivering 7 days a week to keep up with demand. I use it to heat a shop so I'm not desperate but it ***** being lied to. I told them I just needed the truth so I could make plans for some things to be moved. "We'll call you back"....still waiting for that call. I started out with a local owned supplier years ago and was always treated well. That company has been sold about 4 times with each successive buyer being larger. Price always went up and service went down with each sale. With the exception of the first guy it always seemed shady on the pricing levels but I guess this is the nature of that business. I don't know if there's any regulation on these guys like other energy suppliers or if it's just free market. Anyway I think I need to start evaluating alternatives to escape these racketeers.

Got a gas delivery today and bill was well over $700. I lucked up because the guy who made the delivery was not the regular driver and he got two wheels off in the lawn!

You can say I'm too dumb to pound sand, you can criticize my fashion sense, you can say my religion is all wrong, and you can say my politics are all screwed up but DO NOT MESS with the lawn!

So after I calmed sown I called them up and bitched for 10 straight minutes. The price was reduced to $2.89/gallon.

They can remember what ever they want as long as they remember to stay off the grass. I think I was crystal clear on that point but I offered to come down to their office and polish it up with some Windex if they were unclear.

I pay on-time for 15 years so you're damn straight I expect the dang delivery guy to respect the property. I don't see how that's too much to ask.

You said yourself it was a new driver, not the regular guy, why not cut the guy a little slack. The last time we had propane delivery the driver changed the main valve for me for free and i own the tank. I guess he appreciates fresh baking every time he comes.

Are you sure that was the per gallon price and not a per pound price. Don't they fill those portable tanks by the pound?

Most places fill them by the pound but it should be under $1.00 per pound so that probably was the price per gallon. A gas grill bottle is 20 lbs and most places refill them for $16.00-$20.00.

Tractor supply charges by the gallons they pump into your tank and they don't charge extra if you drive onto the grass and bend a few blades.

Called around and 2 other providers gave me the numbers for Jan 24th delivery --- $2.89 and $3.09. I called and read them the riot act ...... why would the person taking the order not mention that prices were skyrocketing at that time? I told them that after 20 yrs of patronage, we're done. They can pull the tank and go home.

I HAD Ferrellgas for a few years. Found that they were the most expensive place in the area. Went with the local Co-Op. About 1/2 what Ferrellgas was charging. After three months with their tank sitting by the side of the road, had to get nasty and tell them I was putting it on Craigs list if they come and get it. I figure they'd screw their own mother for a penny.

I agree 100%. I put a lot of time and effort into my lawn. My driveway is plenty wide enough that I don't need a 30,000lb. truck driving through my yard.

The guy is paid professional truck driver and his job has a couple of basic rules: rubber side down, shiny side up, don't f-up the paying customer's property, etc. I got 14' wide paved concrete driveway which I think is a pretty clear indication of where I do and do not want motor vehicles.

It turns out this same driver runs a ....... wait for it...........a lawn care business during the summer months! So you would think he could appreciate his situation even better.

At any rate he's been banned from the property so the lawn is safe.

You can't make a dent in my lawn with an axe about now,. No propane or oil trucks for me. I haul in my own wood pellets in the Summer . Around here you have to fix holes, dips and washouts every Spring. It's just one of those things you learn to live with. Now you want to see something to howl about, try a nice long piece of vertical ledge poking up all fresh and clean. You don't fix that with a couple shovel fulls of dirt.

Paid $3.79 in eastern Washington state just last week. This is just for a fireplace we have in our house and I've been looking at the Reververae propane unit for my garage/shop. After reading this thread and checking the cost of propane I've crossed it off my list and will head to a electric solution. No gas in my area.
