Dang, last night I was going to buy two, but decided to go to bed and buy them in the morning. That's what I get for waiting.

i created a Grainger online web account and placing the order, for store pickup, day before yesterday. While I have received email confirmation on the order, the order history under my (online) account just shows "A Grainger account # is required for Order History". I guess the online account doesn't mean much to them.

Talked to customer service about my order yesterday, still estimated arrival at my Grainger on 3/14. Well see if it gets dumped before then.

20 minutes ago the link said $162.15.
now at 01:31 PST it says $31.35

this is the best deal right now on the same set from Ebay:

PROTO J52222XL 29-pc 3/8" drive 6-pt METRIC socket set w/plastic box
8mm - 19mm
new (5 available 02/23/18)
$100.00 incl. shipping "buy now"
https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Stanle...-Combination-Socket-Set-29-Piece/132514538827

Thats the same dude who had the sets up for 110. So he lowered it by 10 bucks. Clearly aware the price on these is gonna plummet and trying to get his profit while he can.

if they bought seven (which is what i recall from my first look, one sold, six left), they are into it for less than 250$, shipping included. they have five left, and have cleared either 220$ (sold two before the price drop) or 210$ ( one after, they had sold one when i checked it after it was posted here, and it was still 110$.)

they are not doing badly so far, but the wild profits might not be as big as they might like. of course,if they are patient, in six months, who knows what the going price will be . . . . . .

Man, I was all excited, ready to order a couple, but the price jumped up to $162. I guess I need to spend more time on GJ

Gotta admit, I didn't think they would come in anytime soon...or when I went to pick them up they would say there was an error and I owe more but nope.

Had my Pops pick them up for me today since I wouldn't have a chance until next week. Picked up 2, one for the garage and one for the motorhome.

Big thanks to the OP for digging up the deal!!

I wanted the metal box to. Didn't realize it till after I order the rest of the sets came in a plastic case and this one probably would too. I will sell this one or just hold it off for whatever. The smaller metal case would have fit in my to-go bag. I keep a bag with tools in it like if my grandma calls me or something and needs a repair. I started doing that but need to find a good socket set to keep in it and that fit the bill until I realized the big plastic case. I'll have to get my hands on it to see if it'll fit in if not it'll be sold. If it fits it will go in the bag

I have the older metal box set, but it doesn't have as many sockets. I'd trade it for the plastic box set. Mine have been used, but they're in excellent, like new condition. The ratchet is in unused condition, I use a SO one instead.

After my plastic box set I ordered comes in, I'd trade out the new sockets in it for the older ones in my metal box, and trade it that way instead also. That way, you get the best of both worlds, new sockets and old metal box. Just fewer sockets. My box was removed and stored when I got the tools, so has never seen any use or wear. I just keep the sockets in my main box and don't use the small boxes they came in.

For the price I (hopefully) got this set for it could come in a plastic BAG for all I care.

I'll figure out the storage!

That's my take on it. If you don't like the plastic box, buy a metal box or even just a socket rail. The price is right.

completely correct. this was a great deal, and we owe nycHorn thanx for posting it.

now, if i paid 162$ for it, and it arrived in the plastic box, i would be talking to grainger about it. . . . .

I’m not sure the price is going to plummet if the $100 included shipping. $100 minus $13 for fees minus at least $15 to $20 for shipping minus something for time and effort doesn’t leave all that much room for profit.

Damn good find at $32. Sad I missed it, espically just to have as nice little grab and go kit.

I have some experience with flipper mentality. A lot of these folks don’t need to leave themselves much room for profit, nor do they factor in their time and effort. It’s about the endorphin hit of making a buck, not the financial gain of making lots of bucks.

There are a lot more people getting “happy” off slickdeals than getting rich.

Good explanation. That makes sense.

I just picked up the 2 sets I ordered. All the metal parts are stamped USA and the product stickers say USA.

This was a great deal and I'll be storing these away to give to my daughters when they get older and move out on their own.

Thanks again OP.

No charge on my card yet but no cancellation either. Evidence suggests at this point that Grainger is honoring the price on pickup orders. I think when the stock refills those of us with back orders will get them. If that happens, kudos to Grainger, particularly if it was a mistake.

I ordered without an account (as guest) is there a way to check their site for order status?

Not from what I can tell. I even made an account, but since the order was not placed with that account, still cannot check it.

You'll probably have to call in.

I picked mine up this morning. The case is a little hokey, but the contents are all stamped USA. This is now the nicest socket set I own. Thanks, OP!

If anyone that bought multiple sets decides they bought 1 too many and want to send one my way for a nice price it would very much be appreciated. I don't have any 12 points. :bounce::beer:

i bet they will be all over ebay soon.

as for a reasonable price, mine cost 13$ to ship, so between that and the tax, it was about 46$. adding shipping to you . . . . easily could get to 60$, before "something for the effort" is considered.
