Seems to good to be true. It is craigslist, beware of scams. But the proto boxes as very heavy duty. And if it is legit, it is a deal. Grab it and do not look twice. You are getting a box that can take abuse.

From Grainger:

Country of Origin
(Country of Origin is subject to change.) USA
Tool Chest, 50 Wx25 Dx27 In H, 12 Drawers

Grainger's prices are usually a bit high but the lowest price I found for the top box alone is $2,422.54. Seems like a sweet deal, go check them out, post pictures when you get them home.

It isn't written like a scam ad. If it's legit, and you don't mind dropping that much money, then I'd say pounce on it. Those are beautiful boxes, and from what I understand from this forum, very strong.

we have couple of proto at work. They are super tough and unless you are storing a ton of 3/4dr and larger drives sockets and ratchets and industrial size wrenches 2inch and up. The drawers will hold up well. If you are putting the large size tools, then a knacck or jobox would be the box of choice.

I'm wondering if that box is made at the Georgetown facility where the MAC boxes are made, or if it's made by Waterloo. If it's a Waterloo made box, I wouldn't want it.

OK, I enlarged the picture so I could see it more clearly. It definitely looks like a MAC Tech 1000 with Proto style drawer pulls. The side handle is the dead give away. I'd say get the box as quickly as you possibly can because those MAC boxes are heavy duty and $1800 is a steal if it's in good shape.

If you want not to have to get another box. it is the deal not to pass up. This thing is as tough as it gets. The platium series is the top line proto. It is a bargain at 1800.

That looks A LOT like the Husky and Mac boxes (Mac Economizer) made by Beach in Canada in the 90's. $1800 seems like WAY too much. I paid less than $600 for my top/bottom Husky and has a lifetime warranty.

They are 2 different grade of boxes, the platium and the older mac economizer boxes. Also in 2006 proto redesigned all their industrial grade boxes with even thinker steel.

From what I can tell that is a 40" box. Same as the lowline Mac box and was sold under the Husky name back when home heapo had something close to a good box. I don't know where they are made now, but were made by Beach in Canada. For what the box is, way over priced.

They're the same box. Both measuring 41'' x 50-1/2'' x 25-1/4''. The 4-bolt side handle on the Proto box is the exact handle they use to put on the MAC MB1700A back in the 90's ... it's the dead give away that tells me the box is made at the Georgetown facility along side the MAC MB1000A.

You ever see a 25" deep Husky or MAC Economizer box?

You have not, they never made them, this box appears to be a nice USA made (not Canada) one similar to the high end MAC boxes.

Based off those 2 pictures, I don't see anything that looks the same about those two boxes? Different side handles, different draw pulls and draw pull locations, different draw configurations, different wheels, etc..

I will take back what I said, I did not go to the links, based on the picture, I thought it was a 40"x18", not a 50"x 25". As to the mac vs proto. They are the same basic box. Both are own by stanley. If you go model by model, measurements always match up. Drawer pulls are different and casters can vairy. Proto tends to offer more drawer arrangments for a given box then mac. Matco and bigger armstrong boxes are very much alike too, but I think in that case, armstrong uses an older design.

they are both good boxes. Not sure the price you are getting for the snap on. If they are the same price. Get the one that you like better I would say. You really can not go wrong with either the proto or the snap on. But 1800 is a excellent price for the proto.

We have a few Proto boxes floating around and they are great boxes, if they can survive use in a paper mill they have to be good.

The drawers, sides handles, and castors can all be swapped between those two boxes. Even the drawer liners will interchange. The only thing that might not match are the paint shades.

I went with the snap on. Infatuated with the colors scheme-exactly wrong reason to but it.
