I picked up another Proto la tool board in a trade with Bmwrd0. I have been chasing this one for a while and I finally found something worthy of him trading. Panel 62 B- this one is a mixture of 1/4 and 3/8 drive tools and sockets and 1/2 drive tools but no sockets? A little bit odd because I would have thought they would have put 1/2 sockets on here as well but regardless I am super happy I have it! And now I realize I need a ton of 1/4 and 3/8 sockets and accessories as well. My mfd 1/4,3/8 and 1/2 board is way more full than this is😳. If anyone has spares let me know please.
I picked up a Proto LA 9/32” drive socket at an estate sale yesterday. I would be surprised if there is a spot for it on your new board. It’s in the evaporust at the moment.

That is a good one! Is that the one that came from the antique store down the road from me? I really regret not getting that one myself. To add to the weirdness of no 1/2 sockets on that board there was a board that had 3/4 sockets and drive tools as well as 1/2 sockets, but no 1/2 drive tools

Proto professional metric sockets. 1/2" 12pt 10mm to 32mm, 3/8" 12pt 8mm to 19mm, 1/4" 6pt 4mm to 12mm (8mm missing). They are not identical sets, lots of mix between made in Canada and made in USA on the individual sockets.

Proto professional metric combination wrenches 8mm to 30mm. Missing 22 & 23mm with MACs in their place.

Challenger by Proto 1/4" socket set.

Lots of other odds and ends and some automotive specialty tools but this is the main stuff. I recently inherited all this stuff. :)

Ha ha, yup, this is from your area 😂. I was thinking about that 3/4 board a few days ago. Very odd but I was aware they did these odd/miss match boards. My mfd board is 1/4 and 3/8 but is fairly comprehensive with all drive accessories included, unlike this one which has a narrow assortment.

Here are a couple better pictures. It is a cad plated 4807-H. I’m not sure why they were still making 9/32” drive tools postwar. Perhaps to replenish wartime sets that needed replacements.

I asked if you needed any of this stuff, but noooooo....

Anyway, 1/2" drive sockets had their own board, as they are bigger and there is enough of a variety of them.

I said I wasn’t sure and I would have to check 😉😂. Well now I’ve been checked. I need a ton of this stuff apparently. I have a ton of 1/2 but not so much in smaller sizes

There was a discussion recently about a chisel with a Proto screwdriver handle. Check out the screwdriver in the middle of this photo.
Proto.jpg
9702 LA screwdriver
278 LA Pliers
1140 LA DBE 13/16 x7/8
9682 "pebble" handle bronze screwdriver
Challenger 1069 1/4 drive spinner
9622 screwdriver
1212 Professional combo 3/8
1424 Finishing hammer (body tool)
5450 1/2 drive long ratchet

The Proto screwdriver with the long bronze tip has a 9682 handle, which is for a #1 Phillips driver. The blade is marked "AIRCO #20 BRONZE-CO-ZN (+)" (+ in a circle). I believe that Proto made this for Airco (the Air Reduction Company) that made welding products and probably needed a non-sparking tool.

I take this as evidence that Proto grabbed a handle that was appropriate, irregardless of the number molded in the handle when it made a custom item.

What are the numbers on the puller arms?

Searching this thread did not pull up any pliers like these, using the 228 part number, or "needle nose". I pulled these out of the scrap metal bin for a buck and had fun repairing the tips.

I've got a pair made by <U><TI><CA> that someone did some crude grinding on and now I want to clean them up. The handles on those are slightly wider and the business end is slightly narrower, but they're the same basic design with long handles.

Ok, I was able to get my mfd and more modern era Proto cleaned up this weekend and dunked in wd40 overnight. Some of this stuff was rough but I bought most of this from one booth that was seriously priced by the pound so I wasn’t that worried. Highlights for me include a 3/4 drive ratchet adapter, 2 wood handle mfd marked hammers , tons of sockets for my boards and also a bit of metric 1/2 drive sockets! Not real common to find that many metrics in the wild.

Dang... nothing like that around here.

If go juice for the velocipede wasn't so dear, I'd be talking to the esteemed Mrs. Ak4570 about a road trip!

You fellas are only a couple states away after all... granted, it's close to a 1000 miles, but only 2 states. Not that big of a deal, right?!

All kidding aside, @Smokeshow69 , have a good time picking and @bmwrd0 , heal up quick/best wishes for a speedy return to the circuit.

Best regards,
John

It’s just a hop and skip away. Just a bit of dead dinosaurs and you will be knee deep in the rusty gold 😂

I like this series of Proto LA combos

Got it from Picker McFlipper.
He won't sell all of his Protos at once.
Says he can get more $$ selling one or two at a time

PROTO Professional 3/4” drive ratchet. Probably not vintage. Instead of a drive plug, it’s got this odd forked attachment. Probably has some purpose built manufacturing application.

Picked up a few bits of Proto la and mfd era. I still need to clean them up but all in all a good day. Scored this crossbar puller in box almost unused for $10!
(Ignore the upper right hand corner of the photo. Those cman and aircraft an marked crows feet photo bombed)

Found a couple of Proto pieces at the Estate Sale yesterday
The stuff had been picked over pretty well, but I found enough to make it fun for me

Question for the tribe: Is there a decent/good match for Proto red in an off-the-shelf spray can?

I've got a handful of items needing spruced up...

Thanks in advance and best regards,
John
