Nice little (BIG) Proto Los Angeles Wood Handled Screwdriver found in a basement trove I dragged home last night....Hard to read on the ferrule, but it's there. Just can't catch a good photo of any P/N.

I picked up this P.W.A. (Pratt & Whitney Aircraft) 3/8-inch drive 5/8" box end attachment (see Pic 1) at a used tools store yesterday. I knew it was Plomb/PTII made strictly from the Hol-Tite, but I happen to also have the Proto-branded version of the same exact attachment (see Pics 2, 3, & 4). What's odd is I thought the scutter marks on the Proto were from use. Now I think it's from a die or mold or toolholder in the factory.

Also picked up this group of carbon scrapers, including a VIM, Duro-Indestro, and Proto LA. Plomb was buying these from the same supplier for years, but it's kind of neat to see one as late as the early Proto era.

My current set of Yellow handles. Best hard handles IMHO.
I lack 4 of the screwdrivers, and probably some specialty tools.

I’ve been using these Whitworth sized Proto combos to work on my MG. The wrenches have been invaluable to say the least.

That is a cherry MG, Jim, and I don't only mean the color!

Thanks Lugz! I started the MG rehab project in mid-December. A lot has happened since then, and I wasn’t kidding when I said those Proto wrenches were invaluable. I used them every step of the way.

Hoping for some expert evaluation of this Proto Los Angeles 5485 Sliding Tee if you think the drive component is in fact Proto or is just the Tee bar Proto?.

Found out with my Dad's passing that he had a small tool chest of my uncles, who died 20 years ago. The oddest mishmash of very few tools running the gamut from Proto to the 5.99 butter socket sets remains. So, here are the Protos working today for the first time this century, a 6" Proto LA extension attached to a non LA ratchet. (Williams socket from my dads B1 set) I doubt my uncle bought this stuff new, he was in the US airforce all over the world from 1950 to 1975.

I’m starting the process of organizing my Proto tools since their storage box is getting pretty maxed out. Here are some of the groups of tools put together for some pictures. I was surprised to see a 17/32” socket in the 3/8 drive stuff. Maybe I’ll start on the Proto Professional tools tomorrow.

Today I pulled out the Proto Professional tools for some pictures. If anybody sees a tool that they need for their collection, many of these are available for trade.

I have a Proto toolbox catalog insert from '74 that shows both that logo (the truncated oval with Professional in side it) and the older logo from the Plomb years (lump on a square.)

Any chance of a couple of pictures of the catalog insert? I have a couple of Proto boxes from around that time period. I found a long shaft Proto Mfg USA ratchet in with my 1/2” drive stuff.

If anyone else wants a copy, it was too big to host here so Don is sending it off to Twersty to get it put up over there. Here is the cover:

It was a little too glossy to take good photos of, and scanning is better for PDF's anyway.

Found this today in a 1965 Corvair convertible at the junkyard, rusting away much like the car itself. Think I can rescue it?

Did it look like this? That’s a picture of mine I took at a Southern California convention in 1990. Here are a few Penens tools so I don’t totally derail the thread.:)

Well Don, it had what looked like the original red paint on it, so probably not!

Are you talking about the yard in Ontario? Man that place has had at least 5-6 corvairs over the last few years. Those cars really didn't hold up well in LA....every one of them was rusted beyond belief. But they all had engines too so they were fairly complete.

Super clean flying lady I picked up:
No tools though
Set No. 4700B
Box 4795
The sticker is so perfect I keep wondering if it’s not a reproduction.

The box is perfect enough in my opinion to make me thing they immediately dumped the tools into another box/truck/whatever and left the original box that you bought to sit indefinitely. The sticker being perfect original wouldn't be too far stretched.
