I seem to be on a bit of a proto flying lady tear as of late...I was scouring craigslist the other day and low and behold I spotted a rare beast. The 9953 Tool tote tray. Heck they are rare in plomb( I have one) but the more modern proto versions seem to be just as rare. I dont know of another collector who has one although if someone does have one I would be excited to see photos....anyways I made contact with the seller and set up a pickup for today. It was located in a small ag town but luckily I was able to run over there on my lunch and get back in time. Paid $55 for the tray and the pictured sockets. All the sockets on the right are proto la and are either ones I dont have or are more difficult to find so I thought it was a good deal! Super stoked on the tray. It's very straight and not rusty but as you can see it has been repainted. Maybe one day I will repaint it but for now I'm just going to enjoy putting it to use and give my plomb version a break for a while.

I assume that you Proto guys have your eyes on this treasure.IMG_7187.jpeg

I hate to be that guy but I feel the need to point out how the BS AI description ignores the fact that the gear isn’t the original gear. Yes it’s a 1/2” sq. drive gear and quite usable. A Google search will show everyone including the seller (who probably already knows) what it originally had for a gear. Now if we could just solve the mystery of WHAT that gear was driving. Mr. X had posted the biggest clue I’ve ever see, some sort of shaft was running through the female gear.

^ I most certainly would leave a 4-inch adjustable behind..... if it was one of those POS units from Crescent that you and I got stung on.
(You forgot about that one, didn't you?)

And still no takers on my ebay ad! ;)

Picked up a 5647 ratchet adapter. Pat. #3,222,943 issued 1965 to Pendelton. 30 teeth. At some point they revised the design to 60 teeth, and they still labeled it as mfd, and didn’t use the word professional, but in this example they put the Stanley makers mark S. Anyone know when they started adding the S?

Quite possibly the best all around 3/8 ratchet ever made. The mechanism is so nice and smooth on these, they’re super duper easy to service, and they can get into just about any tight spot imaginable. I just put a fresh rebuild kit in this one. It has done maintenance on my last 4 vehicles and was the only reason I could change spark plugs on a 1973 Oldsmobile without having to remove the exhaust and air conditioning.

They didn’t stamp 801 Proto right side up on the bottom chain wrench. The Danielson date codes indicate years six and eight, but I don’t know what decades. 60s or 70s I would think. Does anyone know when they stopped using the Danielson codes, and if they ever stamped chain wrenches professional?

A while back, my buddy bought this 1960s Sperry XM527 Sergeant Missile System semitrailer and it had this ratchet for the operation of the landing gear. It looks Proto, or at least Protoesque, to me. Interesting.

Very nice. Thanks for sharing that. I've seen the ratchet for sale before but wasn't sure if it was a home mod.. now I know, mil mod! Like how it has the little clip to hold it when the handle is flipped the other way. Edit: not a mod, but factory.

For future reference, they did stamp chain wrenches “professional”. This example from Tom Corbeels has a date code ending in 9

Here is a very long Proto Professional wood handle screwdriver I found at an estate sale a week ago. It’s sitting next to all the sockets in the top of my user toolbox since it won’t fit in any of the drawers. I’ll be hanging on to this one. IMG_1789.jpeg

It‘s a 9744 according to the catalog.

I have the Proto la version of that. It’s in a holder next to my tool mobile because it won’t fit in the box. Way too long

Ok, who sniped this vintage add-a-unit off the bay? Sure is nice looking! I bid $60 with 12 hours to go thinking surely it wouldn’t go that high but I was wrong. I didn’t bid higher but I hope someone on here got it.
