Haven't seen a post of sockets like these yet. The 8 point (double square) were probably purchased in 1958 or 59. The impact sockets were from about the same time. The part numbers match the catalogs of the 50's and early 60's. My dad worked at an International Harvester dealership and some equipment still used square nuts in those days.

I saw the font an part number and thought Plomb empire, ends up I wasn't wrong, but there is no brand so no clue who it was forged for.

Any source on cheap handles?

Anyone seen this odd color on proto boxes? I have a couple of them. Kind of a bronze mauve looking color.

I have two in that odd color, a #5494 "Junior Standard Tool Box" & a #5495 "Standard Tool Box". There was a recent e-bay listing for what looked to be a NOS #5495, with tools, in that color also.

It's after 1956 because it doesn't have LOS ANGELES stamped on it.

I have a catalog from 1962 that shows a 9990 box with the same "PROTO means PROfessional TOols" logo and chrome metal pulls on the drawers, so I'd say late 50's or early 60's.

I picked up this ratchet at the Tahoe flea yesterday. Not pristine but it seems to work well.

Here's something I've never seen before I bought it Saturday. A Proto 5267 3/8" drive flex shaft spinner.

Edit: I grabbed my camera and took a couple of pictures that don't ****.

Nice. I have never seen one. Picked up a box full of penens wrenches and fleet socket stuff. Interestingly the wrenches, though obviously penens, are not all branded.

Dang, George.

I found one of those several years ago in the wild, and now that I've been actively looking for them, I NEVER see them.

Plenty of overpriced ones on that auction site, though.

For sure! A "bargain" would be paying less than $15 there (which I've done).

I had time to stop at one sale on the way to work this morning. The green handle on the Proto # 1424 Finishing Hammer caught my eye, and I didn't peel off the price tag to verify the maker, just "took a chance."

I identified the model number by referring to an industrial supply catalog from about 1970 that I have had for almost 50 years. The hammer face sizes are distinctive.

I always get confused with the acronym 'USS' or 'U.S.S.', it seems to bring to my mind a commissioned ship of the United Stats Navy.. sorry for being off topic, and so daft and irrelevant but maybe you can enjoy a laugh. I actually had to go and look it up, again, in the various information I have saved from Lugz!
In this context bmwrd0 is absolutely correct and it refers to 'United States Standard'.

You get a "You ****" for that Proto body hammer for $1. Looks like it's wearing the original handle.

And here I was excited when I found this 1427 head only for $3 :lol_hitti

My Proto 5449 spud ratchet. 1/2" drive, 24 tooth.

I recently cleaned and lubed it, and it is butter smooth now, with probably the lowest back drag of any of the 1/2" ratchets that I own. Something is off with the detent ball, sometimes it doesn't want to let go of sockets easily. I usually keep a short extension on it to alleviate that problem. It has the thinnest head of any 1/2" ratchet that I have. The ratcheting noise is considerably louder in the clockwise direction.

I got this from my dad probably 25 years ago. I actually like that it has one flat head and one phillips head screw in it. It's part of my "travel" tool kit.

Challenger ratchet, Proto mallet and Proto 5450. I think it is the 3rd 5450 that the seller had no idea what it was and sold it cheap.

Nice Bammer and long ratchet even with an impressive price.
