I fell cheesy for even commenting on that stuff, but that picture of those 18 tool boards in an actual business is way too cool.

I think it is beyond cool! It shows that they allowed vendors to make their own displays and also really make me wish I had a time machine! There are even more displays pictured in other issues so I will have to scan them some time

That box is pretty sweet. This is probably a pretty dumb question but what do you use to wax it? Just the same stuff you would use on a car?

I picked up these 2 Proto la catalogs off eBay for less than $11 shipped [emoji23][emoji41] I put in a last minute bid online and thought for sure I would be out bid but no... shipping cost double the cost of the items . 1951 and 1953 and the 1951 even has the price sheet insert! I was pretty excited about it. I only have a 1962 Proto catalog but it is the bigger size.

I was thinking about Smokeshows new box all last night, and it kept me up, tossing and turning. So this morning, I knew I just had to go and find one! No matter that I already have two others, but his was so nice, and it had the set # in a sticker on top.

So, I figured I would start close to Smokeshow and his box and see what eminated out from that location! And, lo and behold, just up the road from him in XXXXXXX I stumbled across this fine specimen

And with a set # label of a sort I had never seen before!

I assume that they are removed or damaged very often. It is a shame that someone flattened the socket partition on the inside, but I did get a nice Proto flex spinner with it.

We are truly having a flying lady kind of weekend.

Dang, that is even nicer than mine! I love that Proto price sticker. That flex spinner isn’t easy to find. Great work

I saw those and was going to try to get them but completely forgot to keep an eye on them. Good to know they went to a good home.

The dividers are mostly bent back, but I have never gotten them perfect when I have done this. I might just snip and bend a new piece for it, as I have an HF bender that would do the trick. Just gotta see about getting the old spot weld out without drilling.

I have that same bender and it works pretty well actually!

I think it worked well enough once I added extra C-clamps. But, the price was better than a vintage PEXTO, and it takes up less space.

I've got a mish mash of assorted Proto sockets and wrenches, but I can never remember to get them together for a picture. While out garage sailing (a whopping 2 nearby Saturday), I found a bit of shiny Proto text poking through a pile of rusty tools in a basket. After extracting them, found this.

Never seen one before, was quite surprised that I found something fairly rare here on the coast. By rare I mean a non-rusty tool. Intact chrome is a bigger bonus.

Three things:

1. Nice job on the decals!
2. Here’s my progress on a proto LA set I’m working on. Still missing a 4708s and a few other bits
3. My proto finds from today. Any idea what the wrench is modded for? I’m going to use it to bend sheet metal.

Thanks catfish! That black handle spinner is nice and not super common

I can’t remember if I posted this puller before or not. I got it at a swap meet 2 years ago. The wrinkle finish paint is still in pretty good shape and isn’t rusty. The puller parts are a mixture of Los Angeles, mfd and manufactured... I really like that it came with the original puller brochure inside even if it is not in the best shape.

I found this u-joint sitting in my Proto box. I never paid much attention to it but the other day I realized that it is 9/32” drive. I suppose that’s why it’s cad plated. I think it’s the first 9/32” drive Proto that I’ve run across. Are they unusual?

I picked up this Proto flying lady 9971 tool box at a pawn shop for $15. I think it was made between c.1962-64 judging by the design of the box and the logo. It's missing its tray, but there is an antique store that has a lot of trays so hopefully I'll be able to find one there. It's been repainted twice being originally red, then stripped off and painted blue, the painted red over that. I'm going to repaint it, but I'm wondering what color of paint would be the most similar to the original paint. I was thinking sunrise red, but what do y'all think?

I think sunrise red would look great on that.

It's not mine but posting here for reference. A 'brand new in box' Challenger set from 1972. For sale on eBay UK.
I don't know anything about these, only seen some Challenger stuff on this thread. Is it a quality USA made item or too late for that?

Challenger from that time was very nice. Basically, it was Proto for non-professionals. Not the same finish, but the same quality. If cheap enough, I would jump all over that.

I have a box of Challenger tools picked up at various sales. They seem to be good quality. I believe the box is a Challenger box as well since many of the tools came in it.

Thanks for the help and sharing your knowledge. It's priced at £162 so not cheap enough for me to jump at it.
It seems to be taking some time to sell. For collectors it's probably not old enough or a well enough known make here.
