I have never worn my redding ring since I like my fingers. My wife always gave me **** about it until her 2nd pregnancy when she almost lost her finger due to not taking it off. The ring got cut off and she never got it fixed. She is now very understanding.

Switched to silicone a few years ago as well. I bought a pack of 10 on Amazon for a few bucks. All a different color.

In case you get a medical situation, there is a nondestructive technique for removing a tight ring.

We got called to the ED at the hospital a few months back. A young teen male decided to try on his brother's ring, which was way too small. He got it on but couldn't get it off, neither could the ED staff.

We brought our ring cutter and used it to no avail along with destroying a few blades. Mom didn't know what type of ring it was so the next step was the method above. Still couldn't get it off. The ED Doc ended up flying the kid down to Children's Hospital in an attempt to save his finger.

I shorted a watch out working on equipment once... Took a long time to heal that blister. Since then I went with a ceramic watch and a leather watchband... it's the first time I stopped worrying about shorting my watch or band out on a live circuit.

I started my marriage with a tungsten ring. Never could get used to it, so I tried a few different titanium rings in different sizes and widths. Even after 4 years I'd take the ring off when sitting at my desk or in the evening when watching TV, it just always made my finger ache. Not to mention all the degloving stories I've heard, I have an office job and am required to remove all jewelry when I visit one of our manufacturing facilities, but even working around the house/garage stuff can happen. So I bought a pack of silicon rings off Amazon and haven't looked back. Much more comfortable and now I don't have to worry about losing those $20 titanium rings lol.

When they called his wife to tell her he was in an ambulance on the way to the hospital, her main concern was if he would be able to return to work tomorrow...

I do have a real wedding band, it was my fathers fathers band, resized to my ring finger. And, it was awhile before we got the tattoos, we got them the same day. My ring is safely stored away, my wife has worn her ring over her tattooed ring, until our 25th, where I gave her a new ring.
No initials, sort of a floral pattern, matching, but mine has outer border lines, hers does not. She's against initials or names of significant others in tattoos.

My wedding band was smashed to bejesus, almost unidentifiable. I slipped and broke my ring finger, was lucky enough to remove it before it swole too much.

I wore it as a necklace for a while.

About a year ago my wife and I got wedding ring Tattoos.

Our rings are stored in wifeys jewlery box somewhere.

When Jimmy Fallon had a ring avulsion in 2015 from tripping in his kitchen and catching the ring on the corner of the kitchen counter I googled "ring avulsion" and looked at pictures. I had been wearing a tungsten ring up until then but I ordered a Qalo silicon ring that night and have worn nothing but Qalo ever since.

Other than the increased safety, I find them more comfortable and I don't worry about losing or damaging my ring anymore. I also like switching up the style every year or so when it wears out.

Never wear jewelry nor anything around my neck/tie, scarf. Keep shirt cuffs buttoned as well. Too easy to get caught with no good outcome.

When it got to the point where my gold band was getting difficult to remove I started wearing it less and less. Even though I have an office job I was taking it off anytime I was working on a vehicle or around the house. I decided at that point that rather than having it resized I got a silicon one and haven't looked back since. It's not just safer - I find it a lot more comfortable.
The wife never complained that I wasn't wearing the old one much anymore - but as a dedicated married man I knew I needed to do something.

I did commercial HVAC service and install. I never wore my wedding ring. My wife asked me why and I showed her a few pictures on the internet of degloved fingers and burns caused from shorting out a ring. She was more than ok with it after that education!

When I was an apprentice mechanic I watched an "experienced" mechanic gold plate his wrench and nearly burn his ring finger off working on a 24V battery cable. Hurt bad enough he was getting sick to his stomach. It did not smell good. They saved his finger, but just barely. I decided then and there when I'm working no way I'm wearing jewelry. To this day my ring either hangs on a clip with my keys in my pocket or on a peg above my toolbox.

When I was stationed overseas we also had a pilot shorten a finger on a mission through Africa. He was the subject of our next weekly safety briefing.

I’m not married yet but when I do get married I’d wear a ring when not working on anything. I wear my class ring except when I’m working on a car or something like that. That is one of the first things we learned in high school automotive shop the teacher said he had been married for 30 years but never wore a ring after some of his coworkers got hurt with it on. His wife is understanding of it.

wore my ring for about a year and took it of when working was recalled to work early hours of the morning and did not take it of I caught it on the lathe chuck luckily it only cut my finger the ring was placed on my car key ring and has lived there ever since that was about 37 years ago (38 yrs married) my wife under stands why as I am still playing with machinery tools and cars with all my fingers

That does make sense actually - if they have a rule against rings then it should be a total rule. Enforcement of the rule depends on not seeing a ring on anyone - not having to investigate what the ring is made of. That really is the best way to handle it and ensure compliance.

I never wear my ring when I work. Usually I just wear it for special occasions. I don't need to worry about it, or me, getting damaged from wearing it.

I stopped wearing mine last year. I have eczema and my fingers were getting beat up during the winter. In the past I have had welding spatter on it, etc.. until I started taking it off, luckily no serious injuries...
I haven't put it back on and have been much more comfortable without it. The wife only wears hers when going out (both work from home), so I think this will continue.
I thought of the silicone, but why bother. We have been married 16yrs, the ring isn't important at this point. My parents have been married 50+ and I have never seen my dad wear his ring.

Yeah exactly. Plus you don't want someone getting hurt because they thought they had the silicon one on, or forgot they switched back to their gold ring over the weekend.

We had a guy at our firehouse lose his ring finger about 20 years ago because of his wedding ring. He was climbing down off of one of the trucks and when he stepped down his left hand slid over a snap that held the hose bed cover on. The pin slipped between his finger and ring, then he jumped down... The rest is history....

Ironically I own that truck now after being sold in 2003, and after we brought it home we brought it right to his house for a reunion... Kind of like Chubbs and the Alligator in Happy Gilmore, HAHA!

Never wear any jewelry, or my wedding ring. Married almost 28 years now, wife wears hers. I do too many garage and other things, so the ring lasted about 4 weeks. Then wore on some special occasions a few times. Then never since. I never could get used to it on my finger.

While building a house with my xFIL we had to restack a lumber delivery. While doing so he was bitten on his ring finger by
a tiny red spider. That night his finger swelled so much he borrowed a grinder from a neighbor to cut his ring off. Never wore a wedding ring again. I always thought he did it on purpose to get rid of the ring. Like Father Like Daughter.

Thanks to this thread, I have now switched to a silicone ring (From Tungsten). My day job is not "physical" but I do enough stupid things it makes sense. It is something I should have done earlier. My wife laughed when I said we overpaid for my tungsten ring 13 years ago as this one was $9 and looks virtually the same. Its is quite a bit more comfortable, even with the 13 years of muscle memory. I think my original one will sit in my night stand and eventually will be lost like all things which are regulated to the bottom of the drawer.

How did I not know about silicon rings?

I have been married 24 years, I do not know how many times I have caught my ring on things, some to the point of blood.

Most of the time you don't realize you are catching it on things until you see the ring is not round any more since its been caught on so many things.

I will definitely be looking at them.

Mine is deformed, it took a hit and my finger didn't get crushed. Guess there are arguments for both but I have been giving a lot of thought to getting a silicone ring or maybe my first tattoo. The latter would probably be as bad as getting her name inked, get it done then she'll say **** it and move on!

I have had mine get so bad it was shaped like an egg. Some gentle use of the vise fixed it, then you gain weight and they wont come off. lol I think these silicone deals might solve a couple issues. Just wish I could find some that at least looked like metal, and not a black "I'm in my 20's" style.

I have a couple that are basic colors like Grey and a brown/copper color. I also have some that are bright red, orange, blue, green, etc, but those are for the kids to have fun picking rings for me to wear.

I've seen them in metallic color schemes, but they don't look any more like metal than any other metallic paint. Passes the 10 foot test I suppose.

Ive only snagged mine once and didn't break the skin but my finger was sore for days.

It gives me a blister at the base of my finger if I'm digging or running a weedeater for an extended period of time.

I usually don't take it off unless im messing with electric or doing tile work. I absolutely can't stand the grit that gets trapped under it doing tile work

Many years ago I accidentally touched the positive battery pole while working on my car. The ring burned into the skin and my finger instantly swelled and the ring was embedded into the skin tissue. After a week I had to cut my wedding ring to get it off my finger because the swelling did not subside, instead the throbbing pain got worse and I was afraid I would loose my finger. The burn mark is still on my finger. No more jewelry after that.

Years ago I worked at a store and while moving a double stack pallet of cans my ring got caught between the electric jack and the top pallet. Had I not had a wedding ring on my finger I probably would have lost that finger. Luckily being in a small town the store was next to the mall with a jewelry store. Walked down and had it cut off before my finger really swelled up.

While at the daughter's last night, she showed us her wedding band that came in. She's getting married next year. The subject came up about rings and what she was buying for him. I mentioned about cutting rings off and what issues they have.

The wife chimed in and asked about the silicon rings and why I never mentioned them. She said most of her Deputies had went to them and I said several of the guys at the FD did as well. So I might just be switching to a new ring, possibly a Groove Life ring.

My father in-law jumped down from his coal truck 35-40 years ago and the ring and his finger stayed up on the mirror he was holding onto.

Now he can only count to 9 1/2.
