I was told to never pet a stray dog near a Korean restaurant. Or a lobster near a Maine restaurant.
In 2002 our unit went to Osan S Korea to train with an AF A10 unit. While there we only saw one stray cat the whole time and it was the most terrified cat I had ever seen.

It actually climbed a brick wall when we supposed it walking down a narrow street.

We also had tempera fried dog and it was pretty good I must say.

A friend of ours is Korean and visits family every 2 years and says the practice is very uncommon now in the cities and the millennials want to ban it and probably will when the post war generation passes

My experience with fido-q was at a customers plant in China when we were doing a machinery installation in the early 1990's.

Lunch was a small joint of dark meat, a glop of green vegetation that may have been discharged from under a lawnmower with a bad oil leak and an ice cream scoop of white rice.

On the way back to the hotel, we passed a huge enclosure full of mongrel dogs alongside the road.. I asked our host/interpretor if that was where our lunch came from. All I got was a cryptic "maybe".

We went off-site for lunch after that.

Well, this *****... Was out running a few errands, Home Depot, Walmart, Grocery store, etc.
Got home and noticed that some thieving low-life ******* had stolen the center caps off my new truck. Passenger side only. 😡
Not a big deal $$-wise, but still pisses me off.

Found a used set on eBay. Probably buying my own caps back. 🤔

At least if this had happened at Harbor Freight, good chance they would be returned on Monday.🤣

Scott, I have chrome acorn nut caps on the valve stems on my cars because that same low-life club member would steal the smooth ones. I have to have a nut driver in the glove compartment to get them off but I did notice a little smudge of blood on one of them after a Home Depot run.

Could they not have just fallen off?

Possibly. @PugetDude might drive like it's the Indianapolis 500 wherever he goes.

Realistically this does seem to be more of a possibility. I would almost assume anyone that desperate for money to steal wheel caps wouldn't stop at just two.

I've seen tire shops break the caps and then gingerly put them back like nothing happened. Doubtful on a new vehicle which I assume hasn't seen service.

If it was just one cap I would have assumed it just fell off. But two, both on the same side? No, pretty sure they were a target of opportunity in a parking lot. Kneel and steal.
Either way, I bought a set of four from a hubcap vendor on EBay. If they are prone to accidental discharge I will need replacements anyway. If they are for ghetto necklaces I will probably need to replace a few more. Hopefully this is a one-time thing, but as we all know "Hope is not a course of action."⁷

Holidays over,, back to the Salt Mine....

Needed to sort out the steering column on the '32 Roadster, as my initial install was too steep for just two U-joints.
I was also dealing with a floppy column ( free joke set-up for your amusement here...) since it wasn't anchored to the dash, just slipped into the firewall sleeve.
First step is to get it properly anchored to the dash. I need about a 4" drop to put the wheel in a comfortable driving position.

Had an old Toyota piston rod in my stash of someday project ideas. Put it in the big outdoor vise, heated it with a torch and twisted the wrist pin 90° so the hinge is parallel to the bore instead of perpendicular. I knew it was going to be too long, but that was a quick fix with a cutoff wheel in an angle grinder. IMG_20240103_125227995_HDR.jpg

Welded the two ends back together with MIG, did get a little porosity in the root pass, the forging was probably oil-impregnated.
Built up enough weld that I could blend the twist into the crank connection. Took quite a bit of grinding to smooth it all out; I used a carbide burr in my M12 straight die grinder, a 2" flap disc in the M12 right angle grinder, and a christmas tree stone stone in the M12 rotary tool. (When you weld like I do, you have to hone your grinding skills.) Pretty happy withe result. It fits the 2" column perfectly.

The drop is straight, have to build a tapered mount to follow the curved '32 dash. The wrist pin is going to be the hinge. Haven't decided if I am going to use an internal hinge pin or external barrel. Will get it mocked up in the car and see what shows and/or makes the most sense.

Double U joint and shaft support on order from EBay. Vendor is local so I should be able to get the steering shaft geometry figured out this week. Offset angle between steering column and steering box is 41°, too steep for single U-joints.

Thanks for looking.

It seemed appropriate, since my wife opines that I am sick and twisted.
I see the twisted steel connecting rod as a “rat rod” type of design feature, but I get more of a cut and rotated polished billet aluminum connecting rod feel from your build. Again, that’s my un asked for opinion..lol Feel free to mock, or completely ignore my preferences.:)

I thought about using a Honda piston rod, but well, you know that whole quality thing...🤣

Especially if it was from a Ridgeline 😜

Normally, I post a frown emoji on the Ridgeline comments since I'm a happy owner. (y)

I'll have to give this one a pass though, since they announced a recall of 250,000 cars & trucks due to a too tight con-rod bearing/bushing.
I *think* my truck is just a couple of days outside the window the issue occurred in. I hope.🤞
