I was there with F100R in I think 2022. Talked to a lot of people but don't recall anyone saying they did powdercoating. What was he driving?
Didn't ask, but can almost guarantee it was a 64-66 F100... He has at least 25 of them in the shop yard.
If you ever come out this way to visit Mel, I'll take you over there. It's on the east side of Apache Junction.

I can picture "Apache Junction" on a cartoon sign maybe from a Coyote-Roadrunner show. Or at least that's how I picture the dry SW.

Finally got a chance to get back on the '32 project. Decided today was the day to build a battery box to mount on the firewall.
I'm using a 12V 20-amp/hour AGM power sports battery rated at 330CCA, should be adequate for the Goldwing engine. It's a lot smaller than a typical car battery, and only weighs 14 pounds.

Built the prototype with CAD, then transferred the design to 1/8" aluminum. Spent a couple of hours cutting, drilling, and bending up the box, then promptly ruined it trying to TIG the corners. I have never been able to successfully weld aluminum with my Miller Diversion TIG. I do OK on steel but I am incredibly frustrated trying to weld aluminum.
After wasting a couple of hours watching my welds go from bad to worse I finally said **** it, threw it in the trash, and dragged out a sheet of 16 gauge steel.
It only took a few minutes to transfer the pattern and cut it out on the bandsaw.
I didn't take pictures of the fab work, but the 16 gauge bent up really nice in my homemade brake. I finished the bottom bend in the big 6" vise. Welded the bottom corners with MIG, then smoothed and polished them to match the bends.

Holes were drilled in the mill with TCT Annular cutters. Big hole in the center is 50mm, the rest are 40mm.

I elected to mount the Goldwing voltage regulator on the side of the battery box. It's tucked in out of the way on the inboard side, glued a piece of 1/8" rubber to the back side to keep it from moving around.

I will probably send this out to powder coat along with the rest of the fabricated brackets, seat mounts, etc. when I tear everything down for paint.

I'll get it mounted tomorrow. Spent way too much time on it already.

I love the holes in the box! Completely changes the look.

Unfortunately I still see the “for sale” lathes in the background.
If only I had the room…….

Battery box turned out awesome!

Glad you got the 330 cold cranking amp battery, just in case you drive it to Indiana this winter :ROFLMAO:

At the rate I am going, I will need the cranking amps because hell will have frozen over before I actually get it running. 🙄

Still dealing with the "Ghosts of Craigslist" and the "Flakes of Facebook"😕

I was just watching an episode of Tales of Wells Fargo with Dale Robertson as Jim Hardie, they were looking for a lost guy and a gold mine in Superstition Mountains worth over a 100 million dollars, have you ever went out looking

My neighbor has been looking his whole life- and has written several books about it. Really interesting reading.

How do you reduce the diameter of a heavy cast iron sheave that's too big for your lathe?
Set it up like this, it just needed a nudge now and then to keep grinding (and auto-rotating)
Took about three hours to reduce the diameter by .055"

Bigger question is why?🤔

Got a picture to post but the video is not a valid file extension....

Anyone with advice on how to post the video???☹️

$10 Garage sale find a few years back. This just might be my favorite router. Used it yesterday to round over the edges on a bunch of salvaged construction grade 2x's I ran through my little Ryobi planer for a bridge project between our house and the neighbors up at our summer place.

Bridge is 12' long, rectangular steel tubing frame with a wood deck. Welded decorative corner columns out of 3/4 and 5/8 rebar with heavy 2x4 welded wire mesh. These will get filled with 4"+ round rock. Probably saw up some 2" thick flagstone caps.

New project? Is the Wing Roadster finished?
Not even close. Haven't touched it in a couple of months. I think I am going to pack it up and take it to our summer place in the mountains after the July 4th festivities are over. Need to make a concentrated effort to get it running...too many other projects keep getting shoved in front of it.

AND...if it's up there I can work on it instead of starting the master bath remodel that my wife keeps dropping "hints" about-(with ever-increasing frequency...)
