Too bad it‘s illegal to harass game animals cuz it would be big fun to “hunt” them with paintball guns! A couple different color paintballs so you can keep score with your huntin buddy! I bet after getting tagged at close range those pigs might find a different buffet!
What a sterling idea! 😉

Got the remaining 6" deep cushions for the two outdoor sofas back from the upholstery shop. 3/8-16 adjustable feet showed up on the brown truck. 24 x48 outdoor porcelain pavers for table inserts came from Floor and Decor.
Calling this project done. IMG_20250330_112621582_HDR.jpg

Your outside is nicer than my inside!
That’s a great looking outdoor space!

Nice fab in the benches!

Two things I have used to deter javalina. One is to mix blood meal and bone meal together and sprinkle around the plants they want to feed on. The other was to sprinkle crushed pool chlorine tablets at their ingress and egress points. Javalina are creatures of habit and will keep following their paths as they move through the neighborhood. It seems like they do not like the smell of chlorine and will move away.

As always, YMMV.

I thought Javalinas were mean, is this not true?

When we went to Texas for an RV gathering years ago, they told us to avoid them if we saw them because they can be aggressive, especially if cornered or if they had young ones with them. I've never seen one in person however.

Mike, they can be mean. Best to just let them go their merry way when you see them. Also, their eyesight is pretty poor. If you make a loud banging noise, they will scatter........kinda. If you see little ones, you can be sure that the larger ones will be very protective.

We had a javelina give birth IN the courtyard fountain one night ... Back legs in, front legs out As soon as junior popped out, two other sows jumped in and nudged it out with their snouts. Then the all went on their merry way. Pressure washer took care of that mess.

@PugetDude I’m in the NW corner of the valley.
We don’t have near as many javelinas since we hired the Wile E. Coyote’s Acme Security Co. to patrol the streets
IMG_2422_Original.jpegIMG_0744_Original.jpegIMG_0668_Original.jpeg

Also, I know these are hunted here in AZ, at least by bow.
I’m going to pass on BBQing them

I cleaned up enough Javelina road kill off the oval track when I worked at a desert proving grounds out here to convince me of that.
It was those stinking suckers that had me start keeping a small jar of Vicks in my tool box.

Not cool to be puking while heaving the body into the back of a pickup

Well, time for another little welding project. The oval shop stool I built last summer turned out to be a bit unstable on the short axis. I decided to scrap it and build a new one, since I have a better selection of scrap here in Phoenix than I did at our summer place. 🤣
First step was to remove the casters and cut the center post out of the old stool.
Took about two minutes with an angle grinder, the clean up took a bit longer...
IMG_20250417_133701244.jpg
I laid out the new base with 5 legs, made it 24" diameter this time. Works out to 72 degrees, layout was really quick with my digital angle finder. I had a bunch of 1-1/2" square tube shorts in the drop pile, so that's what I used. They had a slight angle on one end so I left it there, coped the other end to fit the center post on my 2x72 belt grinder. IMG_20250417_141133192.jpg
Each leg got a 12mm x 1.75 nut welded in before I closed the ends with a piece of 1/8" flat bar. (Well four of them did. I needed a 5th 4" stem caster, Amazon didn't have the same brand, so I had to buy 1/2"-13 instead. Luckily I hadn't closed in the last leg segment when I discovered the same casters were no longer available.)IMG_20250417_131746594~3.jpg

Once I had everything fit up, I tacked them in place and then transferred it over to my welding table to finish welding them up. I was able to clamp three of the legs, used my anvils as hold downs on the other two.

Next step is going to be adding a rolled ring around the base.

To be continued...

Any issues welding rebar? I've got a project started and need to attach pieces together. Figured you were the best one to ask.

I just blast it together with MIG, using standard ER70S-6 wire.
If it's really rusty I wire brush the joints before welding, but usually just hit it with a hot pass. It welds really well, seems to be pretty forgiving. I am doing mostly ornamental work, not high-stress structural welds, if I was I would have to use a special weldable rebar and a different weld process.

Got the 5/8" square tube rolled and welded in place. Got it down to 24" diameter without any issues.IMG_20250421_090950852.jpg

I originally tried a piece of 5/8" rebar but quickly learned it was too much for my homemade ring roller. I bent the two 1/2" Grade 8 axles on the outboard rolls. Luckily that was an easy fix, two new bolts from TSC, $3.19 out the door.
IMG_20241125_160247656_HDR.jpg

Installed the 4" stem casters, had to adjust the one new caster down about 1/16" to get everything in the same plane. IMG_20250421_092013393_HDR.jpg

Last step was to thread the Vyper seat assembly back into place, with the new base I can adjust it from about 18" to 30"+. The seat support is a piece of 1-1/4" UNF that threads into a heavy coupling nut. Takes a while to make a major height change, but I honestly don't think I will be moving it much; I have a tall stool for bench work.

So, there you have it.
Hybrid Vyper stool, PD version 2.0 for under $200. ( Seat came from eBay, back assembly from Vyper on a flash sale, casters from Amazon, threaded rod also from eBay.)

Knocked out another quick project while working on the shop stool.
I built an adjustable stop for my Evolution chop saw a while back, but it was limited to 16" minimum length. I had to cut the legs on the stool down to 10-3/4" so I decided to make a new adjustable stop for shorter pieces.
Dug around and found a couple of square tube drops that telescoped nicely. (1" x 14 gage and 3/4" x 16 gauge) Welded them up fit the existing swivel mount, with a 5/16" nut and wing bolt for a lock. IMG_20250421_100947500_HDR.jpg

This gets me within about an inch of the blade and allows me infinitely incremental adjustments out to 26"; the new piece will go out to 17" the original stop is for 16" + It only takes about ten seconds to switch them over. IMG_20250421_090801237_HDR.jpg

Hosed the new assembly down with some never-dry enamel (Rust-Oleum). The runs are a design feature, I incorporate them into everything I paint.🙄

Back to building another community bench...

The shop stool turned out awesome!

I need to steal your Evolution saw stop idea, that would be project number 867 on the to do list  :ROFLMAO:
If you cut a slot for the stop rod to slide through the base you wouldn't need two separate stop assemblies. I have 20/20 hindsight, it's my foresight that needs corrective lenses.

Been busy moving into our new summer place, haven't had time for much in the way of projects. Got a feeling that's about to change....

Did manage to knock out another bench for the neighborhood. I was able to incorporate both rebar and diamond plate in the design of this one.😁
I used our logo for the stretcher, which is an abstract representation of the Superstition Mountain skyline. It's made out of #5 rebar that flows into the arms of two large Saguaros made out of #10 and #5 rebar.

Legs are 3" square tube capped with diamond plate. The top rails are 2" square tube. Split a piece of 1-1/2" x 3" rectangular tube with the portaband and capped the irregular shape with a piece of 1/8" x 1-1-/2" flat bar for the terrain piece connecting the 3" legs.

Added a sun on the east end and the moon on the west, both cut out of 1/4" plate. Used my big ball pein hammer and my trusty old rock pick aka my welding hammer for the craters on the moon...IMG_20250518_091049861_HDR.jpg

The sun rays are 1/4 diameter wire that TSC's cattle fence supplier uses to bind their bundles together, grabbed a twisted piece of that last summer when I was buying fence panels. IMG_20250518_101025320_HDR.jpg

Landscaper finished cleaning up the island in the cul-de-sac and put in a flagstone pathway up to the bench.
Calling this one done. Great spot with a mountain view for the walkers to take a break and contemplate life. These really do get used. Screenshot_20250522-131717.png Screenshot_20250522-080229-990.png
