Slight thread derail. If anyone is in the Phoenix or Tucson area and is in need of a sander like that, Woodworkers Source will do a lot of the “heavy lifting“ on your project quickly and IMO reasonably.

Wide belt sander, straight line rip, resawing, etc.

But you would miss out on the experience of loading two 100#+ slabs in and out of the truck three times, laying out and sawing them on a folding table on the driveway at 95°F in the blazing hot Arizona sun, and then driving to the shop so we could run each of them 20-30 passes through the sander (lifting and carrying them back and forth after each pass since the infeed and outfeed roller supports already sold - to us...) , then driving back home to clean up the giant mess the tracksaw made in the driveway...

Quick little welding project.
Yard art for my wife's flower bed up at the summer place.
14 gauge steel, a piece of 3/16" brake line and.... a rock. The drop out of the middle became the base.

Cam, I majored in Physical Geography with a minor in Geology.
It was the only degree I could find where you could go camping, drink beer, and get credit for it.

The powdercoater called yesterday and said both jobs were done, so I spent this afternoon installing composite decking.. Never had to get down on my knees once. (...thanks to my homemade Vyper stool.)

Still missing one of the books for the stack on the right side of the bench; turns out the green color I wanted wasn't in inventory. Picked something close, it should be done in the next day or two.



Each of the gate boards was cut-to- fit to follow the scrollwork. 1/4-20 black button heads on order, didn't like the look of the bright stainless with the black.

If you built one like mine you would actually be saving money....the Vyper seat came from eBay, the back on a flash sale from Vyper. Set of cheap casters from Amazon, the rest was stuff I had lying around. Total was well under $200-a third the price of a Vyper stool.
Let me know if you want me to roll a 1/2" or 5/8" square tube ring for you. I also have a pattern for the base weldment.

I did like you and upgraded what I had, but the seat cushion still ***** and what you have created is really nice.

As for the roller, I keep that in the back of my mind for the next project.

Love the bench Scott. Out of curiosity, is that color called "dark bronze"? It looks an awful lot like the railings around my deck that I had powder coated when we moved in and the color used was dark bronze. Has a little bit of metallic flake in it that's noticeable when the sun hits it.

The powdercoat color is BR-47. I have been using it on all the benches, for about three years now.

My landscaper finished up the plants, gravel and rip-rap around the perimeter of the new garage this morning. . We went with two big bougainvilleas and three golden barrel cactus on the north side.
The west side just got gravel and 3" Palo Verde stone rip rap under the scuppers. The heat is pretty brutal on that side in the summer, so no plants for now.

Only thing left is for me to install the wrought iron wall topper and the gate for the little courtyard-they are ready to go, just waiting on the black stainless steel fasteners I ordered.

@zmotorsports , I've posted these completely awesome, state of the art, world class gravel pictures specifically as a source of inspiration for you.

Got the courtyard gate finished up and installed. Last item on the punchlist for the garage/shop addition. This little courtyard was originally planned to hide the mini-split for the shop office, but it turned out we didn't need it. I elected to do it anyway, it balances out the big courtyard on the other end of the house- that was my big wrought iron project a couple of years ago. The stone columns also gave me a way to add a bit more accent rock without having to do the entire office pop-out.

Given your close encounters of the rattle snake kind have you ever considered screening the inside of the drainage block?
This is what I use.

I also use a commercial, brush type sweep, on the bottom of my gate. Neither of these add ons are visible from outside the wall or gate.

Early on we had two rattlers in the backyard, one under the love seat by the slider!
None in the backyard the past 8 years.

Your courtyard is beautiful but I’d hate for you to consider it done.
