Pulling Chalk line by yourself.

I just picked up a chalk line and was wondering if you guys have a hack on pulling it yourself. I'm a newbie to chalk lines.

Drive a nail in one end, hook the eye and walk it to the other end and snap?

if on concrete floor just put a weight on the end. if on wood drive a screw or nail and hook on that!

be careful with red chalk, it wants to live forever on many surfaces....

Chalk line tip : Pull the cotton line out of the chalk box and replace it with heavy test (75lb?) braided fishing line. When the cotton line gets wet, it stays wet. A hard snap will shake most of the water out of the fishing line. The fishing line will leave a sharper line as well, you'll get fewer snaps before needing to rewind and chalk up again, but the fishing line will last a looong time.

The red is indelible. It is made to last forever. The blue blows off at nothing. Black holds up better and red is permanent.

Very useful video for learning how to use a string line but has nothing to do with using a chalk line.

I use an awl to hold the end when working on wood and on concrete I have a small notch cut in the bottom of my tool bucket that I set over the end of the string.

When cutting plywood mark both ends of the cut with a pencil. Next make a 1" cut along your mark line then place the line in the kerf and pull tight. This works a lot better than hooking the funky metal clip on the edge.
