punch/chisel organization

Anybody have any brilliant ideas on this? I've got the canvas bag things that my Snap-On punch sets came with, but I've bought additional punches since then. I was thinking about something like a screwdriver rack, but there would be a bunch of wasted space with that. What have you done and how do you like it?

Get a big block of wood (6x6) and drill the size and amount of holes you need to the desired depths.

Proto sells the various canvas rolls ups that ship with their tool sets. You can look for a Proto set of similar size and buy the canvas roll. Snap-On probably does something similar.

I have been tempted, but I bought one of the harbor freight 6 compartment drawer organizers (item 99279, $6). I use one compartment for loose punches and another for loose chisels. I've considered a switch to the metal tins Christmas candy/cookies come in to make the sets more portable, but I rarely use punches and chisels away from my bench so the drawer organizer works well.

I put them in one small drawer in my top box. I just found that the rolls to be a pain. I'm quite sure that I could really slim down on the amount of chisels I have.I keep grabbing the same four chisels most of the time.

I only have a few punches/chisels and I keep them in the top of my Craftsman toolbox.

Do you know anyone with a sewing machine? Maybe you could have a pouch made out of canvas or leather.

I've found the Kennedy #520 7-drawer machinist's chest to be the best for punches, chisels, drills, reamers, hole saws, files; anything small, round, flat or needing the organization of small drawers.

I have a plastic tray for the smaller ones & the bigger ones sit next to it in one of the smaller drawers in my main toolbox.

I like having my stuff visible - if I put something in a drawer, I will forget I have it. I also don't like to have to move anything to get to what I want. I did this for my extensions and liked it enough to build another one for my punches.

I have them laid out in one drawer of my box. The drawer is full of punches/ chisels They move a little but no big deal and it is easy to pick one out.

I don't know anyone with a sewing machine, but that gives me an idea. I think making a few of them to fit my drawer would work well. Just gotta find someone to do it for me.

I have mine stuffed in the drawer of one of my 520s, they don't move much do be a problem. Drawer is kinda heavy though.

I should add that my boxes are moved on a daily basis over rough/dirty concrete, so loose doesn't do well.

Interesting thread. I don't have a crapload but what I do have I just keep in a little bed bath and beyond plastic storage bin.

I use one of the small drawers in my Craftsman chest - all my punches fit nicely.
Chisels are just stacked up in a drawer with files, taps, etc.

I just bought a couple packs of these at Lowe's after they were suggested by Fishplate in a thread I started yesterday. I haven't used them yet (I just bought them today) but they look pretty sturdy and they're on sale right now for $6.99 for a pack of three. I'm actually planning on using one for chisels and punches.
