Thats BS, Let him paint it how he wants. Hell as long as everything is up to code and safe, let him build it how he wants. I hate the fact that people try and dictate what you do on your own property. I have an HOA where I live (couldnt be helped), and for now they are pretty unobtrusive, but I'm sure its a matter of time. HOA's can die a firey death as far as Im concerned.

HOA's are the biggest load of BS ever. I live in a subdivision with one and they have been nothing but a big pain in the ***. Bitching about my boat sitting next to the garage, bitching about my old truck in the driveway (that I drive every day). I eventually contacted the board and told them that unless they were planning on buying me a new truck, they should **** it up and get used to it.

Next time we move, I will make darn sure that the neighborhood doesn't have an HOA.

Bottom line... If you don't like what your neighbors do, then MOVE!!

Yeah!! Screw 'em!! It's my land and I will do what I wanna do!!

Would you guys feel the same way if someone started a half way house for released *** offenders in your neighborhood?

Happened in Seattle a few months ago. Perfectly legal, nothing the neighbor's can do about it.

Would something like that change your minds? Is there no limits (other than endangering others) to what is acceptable?

Just curious.

if its legal there is no recourse just like the purple garage is a legal building in the appropriately zoned lot. i doubt its easy to get approval for a halfway house and even if you do of course the neighbors arent going to like it but that is a completely different topic than the color choice or size of this garage and has nothing to do with it

I think Shocker said it the best in his first post. But what I find most interesting is that so many of the guys responding here would be satisfied to have a purple house next to them. Just amazing.

There are worse things than a purple garage. Like *** offenders or loud neighbors. That purple garage interferes with nothing for the lives of the neighbors. *** offenders could be a safety issue legitamately. So that really isn't a fair compair. The only reason HOAS were brought up is because you would think these neighbors lived in one. I don't even mind neighbors making noise as long as they give it a break before 9:00. The video of the neighbors gave me the impression of a group of gossipy pansies. Sorry, can't spell. Too tired from running the chain saw and tractor all day. That group would probably object to that too.

It's lavender, not purple!! And no, it wouldn't bother me. If the inhabitants were pricks, then that would bother me. If they weren't, then I don't care.

The use of that color has an interesting history. Basically it's used to keep the haints away. I've seen a number of houses that color most of which are owned by African Americans.

When did Purple become such a terrible color anyway? Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

What is next, are we going to tell people what color is acceptable in the cars they drive?

That's comparing apples to oranges and has absolutely nothing to do with the discussion at hand. Now if they set up a public viewing forum for watching *** offenders get EXECUTED, then I'd be all for it. I'd probably be there everyday.

And yes, I really do think the purple garage is ugly. But it's not my garage or my property, so it's NONE OF MY BUSINESS! That's the problem with people today. They can't just mind their own business.

Good god. How in the hell can you even begin to equate the two? The purple house isn't endangering them in any way, shape, or form.

If somebody put a halfway house for *** offenders in my neighborhood, I would politely inform them that any of them I saw on my property, I would assume they were endangering my life.

Would I like having that next to me? No. Would I piss and moan about it? No, it's their property. They may hate my house as much as I hate theirs.

I sort of like it, but think it's a little out of character considering where it's built. I've been to New Orleans & love the architecture there & the use of colors like that, but I also like to see things blend in with the area a lot better than that does. The people interviewed that are complaining are not good neighbors & I'm glad they don't live near me. They claim their property value dropped.......LOL

Would I do that? Probably not. Would I complain about it? Definitely not.

I have a neighbor on my street that works full time & has his own landscaping business that he runs from his home. He's married, has 2 small kids & busts his ****. He put up a "Cover-It" style temporary garage to keep his equipment in & repair it, but he still has lots of stuff outside. The temporary garage is starting to show wear & tear & it isn't pretty.

I don't enjoy looking at it or the beat up dump truck or the Bobcat on a trailer he has in his driveway, but so what? He's been fixing his house up & does as much as he can. The house looks better than it did when he got it through a foreclosure 10 years ago & he's a decent guy which is much more important to the neighborhood.

Where does 9PM come from?

Everywhere I've lived "quiet hours" is 10 on weekdays and 11 on weekends. If some one ******* about me making noise when I'm not after quiet hrs I'll tell them to f-off and go get some earplugs.
Maybe I can ***** about them running their lawnmower at 9AM when I'm trying to sleep? Not everyone in the world works a 9-5 shift.

Alright, alright. I DO understand the difference, but the tone of this thread is "I will do what I want with my land and no one is gonna tell me different." I was just making a point with an absurd example.

I am glad everyone would be understanding and feel ok with a nice purple garage and probably a nice purple house for all to see. I personally don't mind it at all as well.
But it is out of character with the rest of the neighborhood and probably will bring the values down. It would look right at home in the San Fran neighborhood that the owners live in but not there.

Nuff said from me.

I am just saying that just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

the garage is not going to lower home values at all unless it is because of a blocked view. run down houses affect home values, the color of houses near it not so much
