Curious about these new (to me) cups/collets for the common 17 type and other welding torches. Been welding for years but once I passed 70 my eye sight isn't what it used to be. I was wondering if this allowed any better vision of the puddle. I already have some magnifers in my helmet.

Another idea would be to use an HW-20 size torch. They are half the size and the water cooled one is rated at 200 amps continuous.

Not a huge fan of them. A standard cup with gas lens provides good visibility. I've broken at least 2 pyrex cups, they are VERY fragile when hot so becareful when and where you set the torch down.

Haven't heard about them being fragile, but I do know theyre not cheap! I've been considering a couple myself for a -9 series torch, but have been too cheap.

Get a stubby gas lens and use the rest of the money for material to practice on. Or if you don't need the practice take the wife out to dinner.
