I just built a 383 stroker motor at my uncles that is covered in 12 point arp bolts. Unfortunately I have no 12 point sockets. Like all of us on here it is a good excuse to buy more tools. I mainly use icon but unfortunately no 12 point sockets so I was going to buy a snap on 211FY 12 point sae set but my local snap on guy is not responding to texts (Not a shop just home mechanic on own cars). So now I am debating do I try and find another local rep or should I look at something like williams?

My box is a mix of icon and snap on currently why I default to icon or snap on.

The SAE set is on special for $76. Really good deal.

Pretty much anything with a known brand name will be ok. It's tough to buy a truly bad socket today unless maybe you can find one of those 1970s $3 Taiwan/China sets at a flea market.
I have Williams USA and SK USA 12 points and they're fine. If you have a lot of Snap On, then you'll find the Williams USA to be a bargain. If not, then I'd say Tekton.

You can get great deals on top tier Proto or Wright SAE 12 point sockets that should handle the high torque of ARP fasteners without issue. The less desirable sae/12pt combo makes this a no-brainer decision in my eyes.

Tekton sockets are nothing special, despite the love affair this board has with them. Quinn sockets still feel crude. Koken and other exotic brands might be a struggle to warranty.

Color me stupid, but I thought all the Icon sockets were 12 point, no?

I'm still sober if that matters... ;)

If you want Snap-On without the “Snap-On” brand name look at CAT sockets. Part number 199-6156. It’s a 13pc 1/2” drive metric 12-pt socket set 12mm-24mm. It’s made by Snap-On and even has the Snap-On date codes on the sockets. Cost is $85. Just go to your local CAT dealer and order it, I bet they would have it next day.

The SAE equivalent 12pt set only comes in deep well and is CAT part number 214-1161. It’s 11pc 1/2” Drive 12pt Deep Socket set. No 12pt regulars in 1/2” drive SAE unfortunately. Made by Snap-On as well and covers 1/2” - 1-1/8”.

12pt 3/8” drive metric 194-3574
12pt 3/8” drive deep SAE 214-6490

If looking for new I would go Williams USA or Proto. If your looking for budget I would look for a vintage US made brand like Proto, SK, Bonney, etc. in no particular order.

I bought a set of Carlyle deep 12 point in SAE and metric. I needed a 3/8 deep for a part I made and NAPA had it in stock. Liked them enough I bought the metrics later. My shallow set is vintage Blackhawk and Indestro Super.

Flea market or Facebook marketplace looks for some older craftsman sets. Many of my 12 sets are just that.

Pretty hard to get "bad" sockets. I still have sockets bought as a kid from mother's home party sales 60 years ago; Allenite.
Believe me I've done whatever I can think of (without thinking) through the years and they survived.
Besides those there are several sets of Craftsmen and SK's in the drawer. As far as I am concerned, they are all pretty idiot proof.
