Question about garage door springs

So I just noticed that my garage doors (single and double) don't have the typical springs that I'm used to seeing around the shaft.

Is this a new design, or are the manufacturers getting rid of springs to cut cost?:eyecrazy:

Definitely a Wayne Dalton door with their Torquemaster spring system. Doors have to have some sort of counterbalance, so manufacturers aren't going to "get rid of springs". The Torquemaster has a spring(s) inside the tube that is wound by the gear assembly on the end(s). It's intended for greater safety and to keep it constantly lubricated.

They've been around for quite a while now. There should be a sticker on the torque tube with all the info..Door and spring size.

If the spring ever breaks, look into converting it to torsion springs, you'll be glad you did!

This may just be me but I don't see a spring on there at all... It looks like it's supposed to be set up with a torsion spring but it's not thereImageUploadedByTapatalk1408327775.557441.jpg and I just bought this door last month so it's new.

I'm assuming cuz they are easier and cheaper to replace?

Yes they are! you can get torsion springs just about anywhere, even off the internet. Torque Tubes not so much.

Even if I don't have the exact same spring on my truck, I can either convert it to a different wire size or cut a new spring on site, can't do that with a Torque Tube!
