This is my first post so thanks and bear with me?
I got an old heater from work that i dont know much about?I would love to use it in my 14x25 detached garage.I dont really know if it works and one of the wires to the igniter was burned out(i think it was the low power wire). So i replaced it with one the same gauge and i want to test it out?Its a 120v type.So i might just hook power up to see what happens? Can i test this without hooking the gas up to it or does the pressure have to be in the piping to send a signal to ignite? Also what else should i do to try to get this to work? Can i jump the 2 tstat wires to try to get it to light?I just want to see if the igniter works before i hook it all up to the gas.Or should i just order a new igniter and wires berfore i even try?Heres the info on it.If you have one or know about them any info would be helpfull thanks.

No expert here, the gas on my heater is off at the main right now. If I turn it on, the burner will attempt to light (won't) on the fan goes on.

Do you have a re-verber-ray infrared heater?Mine doesnt have a fan?
Thanks

I don't think these have fans. They radiat the heat from the burner. They require a lot of ventilation. So if your garage is enclosed you really shouldn't use it. They're designed to be used in large open space areas.

Read the installation specs on the side of the heater. It will tell you what your distances should be from cumbustable surfaces and the floor. Too low a ceiling is also a problem.

Yes you are right.my garage has 16' hieght to the peak and no insullation and a lot of drafts so i think it would be ok?I have the hieght specs and i should have room?I guess you point it at the floor to heat that up first?
Thanks

Here is a link to the manual on ReVerberRays website, http://reverberray.com/sites/default/files/liodr_manual.pdf hopefully this might help you out more. I believe you will need to have your power hooked to the unit to be able to test the ignitor but I dont think you need the gas hooked up to check it. Do you know if your unit is 120V or 24V control voltage?

Thanks for the link its a great manual!Mine is a 120v unit and i did hook it up to a switch and the ingniter did work(It sparked just like a spark plug). So far it looks good now i just have to figure out what connectors are for the tstat. Then i think im ready to hang it and hook it up!I hope this works its getting cold in my garage and this would be perfect!

You just need to get a thermostat rated for line voltage and then wire it inline like they show on page 18 of the manual which I believe where terminals "TH" and "N". Make sure you mount it within the angle of degrees that they show on page 5 and you should be good to go. Good luck!

The ReVerberRay DR Series is a High Intensity Infra-Red heater and does not have any fan on the unit, the low intensity tube heater type have fans/blower.
