I have, in addition to my main garage, an additional garage next to my house which i use for storage of junk and cars which "need work"!
The garage is an old pre-fab, probably about 40 years old. The main structure of it is OK-ish, but the doors were in a really poor state. In fact earlier this year, someones previous repairs to the door failed and the left hand door was now only held on with the top hinge!
Despite putting it off for a few years, i needed to replace the doors. As it is in a fairly damp area, (surrounded by trees etc), i didn't want to use wood again. So i decided to use steel. Im hoping this choice means i wont need to do anything for a very long time in terms of maintenance.
I had the steel frames welded prior to this weekend so that o could ensure i could get it all done in one day. As the front of the garage has access to the public, it couldn't be left open overnight.
Anyway, enough talk, here are some pics.
As there was no means of attaching the doors to the original structure, i put in a steel frame which i welded in-situ. The bottom part will be covered in concrete to form a ramp into the garage. It was welded to various original parts of the garage. Not pretty, but functional.
Sadly, owing to the very cold temps, sealing up the gaps and finishing the painting will have to wait.
Not the most exiting project in the world, but one that needed doing!
