I just got my Quincy 7.5 horse 2 stage hooked up and it's much more quiet than my old single stage husky it replaced. I would imagine the 5 horse Quincy is even more so.

The quieter you go the more it will cost. The best way to go is with a direct drive piston compressor with a quiet box on it. Totally enclose the compressor and motor inside a box with sound absorption foam, and proper ventilation. They can be extremely quiet when properly constructed.

Yeah, the only 60 gal direct drive Comps av seen with box are Kaeser Ind & Eurocomp piston.

x2, I was just gonna post that the best bet finding a quiet compressor is to go with something old if you can find it.

I have a 1957 Curtis compressor that is quiet. The key is the rpm the pump turns. Usually the slower the rpm the quieter. The Curtis C90 on my compressor turns 500 rpm.

What is quiet? In a shop, you don't need whisper quiet, just not oil less noisy. Just about any cast iron pump will be quiet enough. Noise cancelling foam on the wall or sound deadening insulation also helps. Not having ridged connection to pipe or floor helps.

I think he's concerned with noise getting into the attached house.
The noise from oilless requires hearing protection, but while other compressors are quiet enough to not, they still overpower the TV.
The suggestions above are a good start. I would be sure the feet are isolated from the structure, to minimize conducted sound.

Slower compressor speed = less noise; cast iron compressor = less noise; belt driven = less noise; rubber isolators on mounting feet = less noise; move air intake away = less noise; flexible hose connection = less noise.

Yes, another question with no information. I don't like to assume the OP meant anything.
That leads to post like build a compressor room 100' away, run power out and air back in underground, add wiring for internet, phone and alarm. And since you did all that, add a 40 x 60 garage.

There's a 5HP Quincy 60 gallon air compressor with a 75 dBA rating, but it seems to be a discontinued product on Amazon:

I'm not sure why it was discontinued, what model compressor could have replaced it, or if it's available somewhere other than Amazon.

It's the tanks. They ain't certified for use here. The dealers can still get the power head but imagine the cost.

I have a 2 gallon cman that takes oil. It's not always about oil/oilless. More direct drive vs. in direct drive ( belt or no belt ). That thing is loud as hell.
My old Champion 2 stage cast iron pumps were much quieter. I had an IR 2 stage 80gal. It was louder than champion. The pitch was lower on the champion and it was not as obnoxious.

The last oilless I worked around, it was so loud that it was hard to concentrate enough to blink once for yes and twice for no.

Yea Champions run at much lower rpms. Some in the 8 or 900 range vs a lower grade IR that runs at 3400 rpms. Champions are 3 times the machine vs the IR... IR's budget compressors anyway.
I have a little Porter Cable pancake compressor that you need ear muffs with. Man is that thing a screamer.

It is pretty pricey. Their specs claim sound levels under 70 dBa. You may be able to get close enough performance using some of the suggestions above.
