had to continue on a new post. after putting it all back together it was time fix all the plumbing.

so with all that said, I have a compressor that works now. I cant put a video on here. let me start by saying, I made a new friend because of this contraption, I wouldnt have a working compressor if it wasnt for @The Tool Tyrant He reached out to me not long after I started this thread and was extremely helpful along the way, took time to answer questions for me, he guided me through what all I needed to get this up and running. I couldnt have done this without him and woulda threw in the towel some time ago honestly. After the tank being cracked, and having a difficult time finding a tank(i called everyone that makes new tanks and they were all extremely long wait times, 20 weeks was the lowest quote I got), I was feeling pretty beat down. I learned a lesson from this, if a deal is too good to be true it probably is, with that said I dont know what these compressors cost new, but I do know the pump alone is 8800, I didnt keep track of every penny spent, but im probably around 35-3700 into this compressor. If you have a chance to pick one of these monsters up I say go for it, this compressor is AMAZING to say the least. its much quieter than I thought it would be but I will be getting an intake silencer for it. The dual run feature is awesome too, I got to test it out yesterday actually. I have used my sand blaster with it and this compressor keeps up with it no problem! Now I gotta do some work on the blaster.

so theres the happy ending, it cost me more than planned but it was worth it!! again I couldnt have done this without @The Tool Tyrant he was instrumental in making this happen!!

Ok guys this thread is due for some updating and a happy ending. So what started out as a great deal turned into a disaster very quickly. I decided for my own safety I would pressure test the tank, and low and behold I found it cracked. So now I had to find a new tank this took a bit of time but I was eventually able to score an IR compressor with an after cooler on it also! So I ditched the IR pump and motor, and proceeded to mount my 7.5 single phase and quincy 350 pump to the tank. after pressure testing it to make sure it was good. Ok so next up was to get the belt guard, and aftercooler all mounte dup and get the pump sheave and motor sheave aligned. This wasnt too bad but definitely takes some patience.

Now it was time to check out the compressor itself, obviously I was fibbed to about this thing being removed working. so I removed the valves, the head and cleaned everything up and reassembled.

What pressure did you hydro test the tank?
Enjoying reading your thread, you have a beautiful machine. Like the way you ran the copper plumbing, I may need some tips and advise to get my plumbing bends when time allows for my Quincy 325 rebuild.

I took my tank to 1.5 times the rated max psi(in my case rated max was 200) so I took it to 300. I let it sit for awhile and did a few other things around the shop. came back saw it was good, drained the water and began my journey.

I cant wait to make it all blue like it deserves to be, but that wont happen till I build my own shop and move it to its permanent home. Plumbing wasnt bad, I got most of the lines right on the first try but messed up the one going to the dual run function twice. as @The Tool Tyrant told me the bend is only going to be as good as your measurement.

last update guys, I had a leak from the bearing plate so while I had the compressor apart I thought it was time to repaint it, I also repalced the check valve and the pilot valve and hydraulic unloader. I added a solberg to it also. and my lovely wife printed me a new logo! IMG_7483.jpgIMG_7534.jpgIMG_7660.jpgIMG_7829.jpg

not sure of the part number, i know its right around 7 inches. I used the data sheet provided for the 350 and the HP of the motor i was going to use and a pulley calculator to come up with the proper size along with some help from a friend!

I used new holland blue, ford blue was a shade off from this. As for the logo, my wife used her cricut, she cleaned it up a little bit(I think some photo editing program) and printed it as large as she could, it was a 120 gallon tank so I had room lol I think I have the file on my PC at home still, if youd like you can drop me a PM ill email it to you.

Mine is ford blue, I painted the vacuum cleaner NH blue. Mine had a slight rod knock when I got it. Ahh a Cricut vinyl cutter, cool... some thing I don't have. I was going to make one out of my large HP pen plotter but never got around to it....

a slight rod knock?! I could probably hear that thing in Indiana lol. IDK if youre a facebook user or not(im not), but you might be able to find a local lady with a cricut that will make one for you? I like the color of yours! I wasnt trying to restore mine to the light blue, i prefer the newer darker blue.

Looks awesome.

There was some bad info on wiring requirements earlier.

The NEC requires wiring it based on the HP rating, not the rated amperage.

Here is the table. 40a for 7.5hp, uprate it 125% for a motor load, and you get 50a. With NM-B, this would require 6/2, not 8/2, as was stated. If running conduit, you can use #8 thhn. Max breaker sizing is 250%, so 100a max.

I was afraid you were going to say that after reading it earlier in the thread and not seeing anyone correct it.

Its not imminently going to burn your shop down, but it's not code compliant.

Breaker is never on unless im in the shop.
