Saw these today. They look very well made. Made in Taiwan and not China or India. Anyone know if they are as good as they look?

There's nothing wrong with them. They're identical to the Pittsburgh sets hanging next to them aside from the stripe.

The Pittsburgh Pro sockets were already made in Taiwan.. and honestly I think they're just fine as long as you use them correctly. The 1/4" deep set in particular has held up well and I like them because they're 6pts and there are no skips.

I think the Quinn branding is a ploy as well. What I'd like to see is more wrench sets WITHOUT skips.

I have their 1/4 drive shallow set that I use at the junkyard weekly. I use the 10mm the most and don't go easy on it. It's very good, love that I can easily read the size. The only thing holding me back from getting the 3/8 and 1/2 drives are the skips. A damn shame.

I looked at them too. I think its nothing but a ploy to avoid having to sell them with coupon discounts (the real HF sales strategy)

I don't see any Quinn exclusions on the current coupons.

My guess is that they're trying to reduce confusion between their standard and premium lines. Calling them Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Pro blurs the distinction. I expect the PP stuff will all eventually be supplanted by the Quinn brand.

HF cracks me up, coming up with a dozen new "brand names", icon, quinn, bauer, doyle, vulcan etc etc.

It's still HF.

Don't underestimate them. They didn't get where they are by being stupid about branding.

You can bet they have a good reason for setting up all these new brands. The comparisons they're drawing in their advertising makes it plain what level each brand is supposed to compete at. They're comparing the new brands with Snap-On and the old brands with Lowe's and Home Depot.

I'm not saying the new HF lines are actually equivalent to well-established pro brands, but they're clearly better than the low lines. HF wants to compete in the pro space, and this is how they go about trying to break into that market; by positioning Pittsburgh and Chicago Electric as homeowner brands, and setting up new brands to try to appeal to professionals, rather than try to sell Pittsburgh to pros.
