Well, after having my Race Deck tiles on a shelf for 10 months, I finally got the garage to the point that I could install them! Overall, I am very happy with the product and installation was very easy after I got the hang of it. I even pulled the center section out a couple times to change the pattern and it was extremely easy to do. I plan on splitting the tiles into 3 sections each spring and drag them out onto the driveway to pressure wash them and the concrete underneath.
A few cautions from my experience:
- The Race Deck installation video shows a guy with his kids "stomping" the tiles into place. I tried this and some went together easlily while others ended up bending the tabs over the adjacent tile and leaving a permanent dent (that pissed me off!). I can't see how anyone can do an entire floor this way and not damage their tiles. After messing up a half dozen tiles, I used a putty knife to align the tabs and then a rubber mallet to set the tile. This works perfectly with no damage, but it is a lot harder on the old knees!
- Be very carefull cutting the free flow tiles on a bandsaw. Two of mine ended up breaking on the last part of the cut and left me with a missing corner piece. To be honest, I wasn't impressed with this as the webbing is very fragile once the boder is trimmed off. The regular tiles are much tougher.
- Buy a few extra tiles with your initial order. Between the dented tiles, broken corners and one miscut tile, I now need to order 8 extras.
Hope you like the results!
