Racedeck Durability Questions

I've been contemplating buying Racedeck for my garage floor, but I'm still unsure of the product. I've contacted them directly with some questions, and they were very kind and even sent a sample (I didn't even have to request one). So...I decided to do some stress tests :).

Have you all had any problems with your Racedeck flooring? My garage is used for multiple purposes (lifting weight, autmotive work, yard tool storage, etc), so I dropped hammers, shovels, etc on it. Unfortunately, I got some pretty noticable gouges when I dropped a hammer and a light, level spade (not point down) on it. I was even able to make light marks on it with my fingernails. I didn't get any dents from my floor jack without a car on it, but it's a nice low-profile, professional jack, so the wheels are nice and wide. But what if I had a car in it? Will it create permanent dents?

Now, the sample was a bright yellow, so the fingernail marks showed up in certain lighting and that may not be an issue if I get the darker colors I intend...but it is still disconcerting. Is this the durability I should expect? Or did I receive a factory second just for samples' sake?

I was also thinking of getting through garageflooringing.com since they are affordable and ship for free...apparently it is Racedeck but they can't advertise it...if I decide to go that route. Any input on that front? I'm definitely on the fence about all of it. I know a lot of guys have posted of their successes here, so I'm not ready to write them off yet.

Thank you all for your help, and be safe out there!

I don't normally post on threads about RaceDeck and the only reason I am here is because of the reference to garageflooring.com which DOES NOT exist. There are two companies out there: My company is GarageFlooringLLC.com . We do not sell RaceDeck or a private label of their product. I can personally vouch for the fact that we have never claimed to sell RaceDeck.

GarageFlooringINC.com is another company. They sell a lot of different products under a lot of different names. I can't speak to if they do or do not sell RaceDeck -- but I kind of doubt it.

Ooops. Had a typo. C not G (garageflooringinc.com). Sorry for the confusion. So they don't have Racedeck products?? I do appreciate the vendors chiming in, other forum members have mentioned they come in Racedeck boxes...so I'm glad to hear directly from Racedeck if this is, in fact, a forgery.

That being said...none of these posts help me figure out my durability concerns. I received my sample directly from Racedeck...soo...I'm pretty sure it's real :). Thank you all for your help.

I'm not gonna try to advise you [OP] of any particular product, just say that my RaceDeck has been exposed to numerous tool and materials drops, as well as rolling floor jacks and jacks with cars on them and rolling my 600 lb. table saw saw on its dolly back and forth. And so on. So far, after about a year, I have no nicks or dings or scratches.

I haven't actually "tried" to gouge or scratch it, so I cannot claim it will never happen. But, mine is looking good. I am not "gentle" with it, either, it's a floor and my policy is that if I have to baby a floor then that would be ridiculous, it's a floor.

By the way, I was concerned, when deciding on whether to go with RD tiles, that pieces of gravel, even sharp gravel, stuck in my truck tires or my tractor tires [tractor also weighs over 4000 lb.] would gouge or nick my tiles. To date I have no such dings.

The one compromise I've made is to put a piece of scrap plywood beneath jack stands when they are holding up a vehicle...just figured it was smart to do that. No big deal to me.

All I ever hear is how awesome race deck is. I'm getting ready to order 400 sqft of it. There are commercial garages and professional race teams that use it. I don't think they would if it were a substandard product.

Think about it this way, if you drop a hammer on concrete, one of those two things is going to get damaged. I'd rather stick a 3$ tile between the two, and save both. If you're worried about it, get extra tiles and just pop out the broken ones, but I doubt it'll happen very often.

If it needs to be bullet proof then go with the concrete that is there or porcelain tile. Racedeck is plastic and is a fanastic USA made product and stands up to all kinds of uses. Jack stands, Hydraulic jacks, oils, fluids. Will it scratch of course. The indentions will return to flat after use(most times). Tons and tons of threads spell this out in detail. In the end it will be up to you what you can and cant live with. Racedeck can also move with you if you move, ceramic/porcelain cant.
Spend a week reading(READING) all the treads here on Racedeck then ask your question if the answers you are looking for havent been covered.
Good luck on your decision.

I do not sell RaceDeck but it is a quality American Made product. I do not like Polypropylene products in general for workout areas, but rubber products are not good for automotive ;-)

If you can set aside an area for a work out area and do a 10x10 area or so in rubber, we are getting ready to do just that in our garage -- I am going to do a video blog of the install which should take about 20 minutes

Horse Stall Mats @ tractor supply for the workout area. Or go to Muscledriver, Rouge, or any of the other home gym equipment manufacturers. ~$40 for a 4'x6' section. Rest I can't comment on, we are building a workout area in our garage.

I appreciate everyone's insight. I've read many of the threads on this board, but I've found that most people are too enamored with a product to give a good review or so enamored with another to give credit to another. I just try to see it from every angle and work from there. Thank you all for your input.

Not the case here. RaceDeck is a direct competitor. There are some companies out there I would either not say a word or PM you about some options. I don't do business with them, but the truth is the truth. Its a durable product and a quality American Made product. If you are still concerned about it PM Jorgen (RaceDeck1) your address and I am sure he will send you some samples.

In our experience, with the variety of online research that we sometimes do for our site, it's harder than not to find people who are truly unhappy with any of the various premium interlocking tile products that are available. We've personally seen it used in all kinds of environments and it holds up well.

I really want to lay some Racedeck in my garage, but I can't afford it yet. 20X20 doesn't seem that big until you want to fill it with those tiles. LOL

Just for information purposes, is anyone willing or able to post a rough cost per sqft that these various flooring options cost?
Currently a local australian supplier is charging ~$37AU per square meter. A modest 7mx7m garage ends up costing near $2000US depending on exchange rates.
Just wanted to get an understanding on how much we are getting ripped off!!!

I went with the Diamond Grid-Loc tiles from Garageflooringinc.com. I looked at several different suppliers of snap together tiles. They were all made of the same material. All American made. The only differences I could tell was the number of connecting "snaps" and the price. From an engineering stand point, I don't think the number of connecting snaps (loops?) would make any difference in residential garage setting. May make some difference in a commercial setting due to heavier use but I'm not sure of that. I put the floor in my 560 square foot garage in an afternoon and am completely happy with it. I think I paid around $2.25 per tile. (Average. The colored tiles are a little more expensive that the black.) The only think I would probably do differently would be lay a thin rubber mat under the tiles. Just to reduce the hollow sound of walking on it. Sometimes when I feel really industrious and don't have any thing better to do I may take the floor up and put a pad under it.

:willy_nil:willy_nil They Do Not. We make all of our own products here in our ISO Quality certified 150,000 ft facility in Salt Lake CIty ' All Under One Roof'. No other company or facility manufactures our products. Garageflooring.com has no affiliation with RaceDeck and from what I know is an internet reseller of knockoff products? Though the website is not working now.

R.E. The OP's post: I have dropped tools on my racedeck floor and it's not a problem. As far as bright yellow, you will find out in the forums that any bright color racedeck or plastic tile is more prone to visible scratches, marring, dirt etc. I have some white tiles in my garage and it has not been an issue, and light grey gets just as dirty and in need of a wiping-down. As with any floor, Its not going to look perfect forever....except maybe porcelain which I have only read about and have no personal experience with...good luck!
